Position FunctionNetwork Architect is a position under administrative supervision of the Manager of Network Services in Information Technology Infrastructure. Specific activities include installation, maintenance, management, and support of data network electronics and software in an enterprise 40-Gigabit/100-Gigabit Ethernet network. Management and coordination of large-scale networking projects in an enterprise environment.Salary Grade: 17Please see Staff Compensation Structure for salary ranges.Essential Duties And Responsibilities• Configure, deploy, and monitor MSU Campus Network infrastructure components such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllers.• Evaluate, test, and recommend new network hardware and software.• Manage and coordinate large-scale projects.• Provide technical support and guidance to the other divisions within Information Technology Services and to the MSU community at large.• Meet regularly with other members of Information Technology Infrastructure staff to discuss current issues and future plans.• Manage and coordinate large-scale projects.• Be available weekends and nights for performance of duties as required.• Periodically, perform on-call duties by carrying a pager that alerts of system and network emergencies requiring immediate response 7x24.• Other duties as assigned.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience in an enterprise network administration position and five years of experience.If The Candidate Does Not Have a Bachelor's Degree, They Will Need 7 Years Of Direct Industry Experience Without a Bachelor's Degree In At Least One Of The Following Areas• Configuration and maintenance of enterprise class networking hardware including switches, routers, and wireless infrastructure• Configuration and management of enterprise class firewall hardware and management softwarePreferred Qualifications• Some supervisory experience over a technical staff.• Extensive experience with Cisco wireless controllers and management software.• Extensive experience with Cisco switching and routing protocols.• Experience with Fortinet firewall hardware and management software• Experience with designing wireless deployments.• Experience with network protocol analysis/interpretation.• Cisco network related certifications such as CCNA or CCNP.Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities• Proficiency with one or more UNIX scripting or text processing languages such as PERL, Python, awk or bash shell.• Experience with network management tools and protocols such as SNMP.• Experience with structured cabling systems.• Well-developed interpersonal communication skills.• Strong written and verbal communications skills.• Ability to efficiently deal with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.• Ability to meet deadlines and efficiently coordinate unrelated activities.• Personal initiative.Working Conditions and Physical Effort• Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.• Sitting: required to be able to sit for long periods of time, as typical days will involve sitting at computer consoles or sitting in meetings.• Job occasionally requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.• Vision requirements: ability to see information in print and/or electronically.• Hearing requirements: Ability to hear and respond to telephone conversations.• Dexterity and visual acuity: required to be able to use computer screens and keyboards and manipulate small devices and parts.Instructions For ApplyingAll applicants must apply online at www.msujobs.msstate.edu by attaching a cover letter and resume which includes the names and addresses of 3 professional references.
