The Job



San Bernardino County Museum is recruiting for a Museum Registrar* who will provide support to all curators by expanding public enjoyment of the unique collections through various programs both in-person and online. The Museum Registrar will also manage the Museum's documentation, registration, and cataloguing of its artifacts, research grants and funding for historic preservation and capital improvements, and provide supervision to Museum volunteers.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The San Bernardino County Museum is located in Redlands and was founded in 1952. The San Bernardino County Museum contains exhibits and collections in cultural history and natural history. As part of the museum experience, there are public programs available for adults, families, students, and children. The San Bernardin County Museum strives to develop visitors’ appreciation of the diverse regional identity to spark curiosity, stimulate inquiry, challenge assumptions, and invite their contributions to the County of San Bernardino future. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Pre-Employment: Prior to appointment, incumbents must undergo a background check, which includes fingerprinting and a medical exam.

Travel:
Travel throughout the County is required, as incumbents work at the various Museum sites throughout the County. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements of the position include the following: frequent sitting, walking, and standing; frequent lifting and carrying of materials up to 50 pounds, and occasional lifting and carrying of materials up to 100 pounds.

Work Schedule:
Incumbents will be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Minimum Requirements

Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, Biology, Paleontology, Geology, or closely related field.

Experience: One (1) year of full-time professional experience in public programming, education, or administration experience in a museum setting or public education institution.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Museum Studies or Public History and possess 1-2 years experience in a museum with collections care and management.
