Your career with Nationwide begins Monday, March 4th! This role is remote with flexible hours: starting time can be Monday-Friday between the time frame of 4:30am-8:30am PST.

Job Description Summary
Are you passionate about the health of pets, veterinary medicine and the human animal bond? Are you an individual with strong communication skills? If so, we want to hear from you!

As a Medical Records Assistant, you'll be an excellent teammate with a positive demeanor, ready to assist with the day-to-day operation of the department. We'll count on you to support the team in the procurement of medical records from veterinary hospitals to facilitate new insurance applications, claims, and upgrade requests.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
  • Calls veterinary hospitals as directed to obtain medical records on behalf of the applicant.
  • Reviews medical records for accuracy and completion prior to forwarding them to Underwriting Department for review.
  • Generates correspondence to applicant with explanation if records could not be obtained.
  • Works closely with Sales, Underwriting and Digital Marketing departments to increase applications approved for policy enrollment.
  • Gains competitive knowledge through relationship building with veterinary hospital employees. Enters applicable information in Salesforce (customer relationships management) software program.
  • Inquires as to whether veterinary hospitals would like educational seminars about pet insurance; transfers call to other veterinary services employees to fulfill requests.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Supervisor/Director.
Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Typically, three or more years of experience as a veterinary receptionist in a veterinary hospital.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of veterinary medical terminology definitions. Understanding of medical service organization and functions. Solid understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel, internet navigation. Ability to read and understand medical terminology used in correspondence with colleagues and applicants using templated letters. Demonstrates a customer-focused demeanor through compassionate listening. Must exhibit patience with veterinary hospital staff members when attempting to procure medical records via phone calls. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to tackle practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule form. Proven track record to prioritize tasks.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the Veterinary Pet Insurance leadership and HR Business Partner.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.
The national salary range for Medical Records Assistant - Pet : $42,315.00-$70,500.00
The expected starting salary range for Medical Records Assistant - Pet : $42,315.00 - $56,800.00
