The NBCUniversal Internship Program allows students to unlock their potential by contributing to big projects in meaningful ways that matter. To thrive as an NBCU intern, you are ready to bring your passion for media, entertainment, and technology along with your desire to learn each day.  

In addition to all of our internships being paid, we will also offer the following for our Summer 2025 interns:    

  • Paid company holidays for full-time interns.

  • Free admission to Universal Parks to use during your internship. 

  • Access to mental health resources including counseling sessions. 

  • Financial assistance to offset expenses for transportation and housing may be available on a needs-based basis for eligible in-person interns. More details about eligibility for this assistance will be provided at the time of offer.   

At our Universal City office, interns will have access to the NBCUCommutes program, which provides fully subsidized transit passes to full-time lower lot employees, good for unlimited rides on all Metro bus and rail, such as the Metro Red Line. 

Summer 2025 Recruitment Timeline:

November 4 – December 6: Applications Open (may close early due to applicant volume)  

Mid November – Late December: First round video interviews   

Mid – Late January: Second round interviews  

Late January – February: Selected candidates receive offers  

Job Description

Summer 2025 Internship Program: 

  • Applications Close: December 6th at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – applications could close earlier due to applicant volume!  

  • Program Dates: June 2 – August 8, 2025 

  • Time Commitment: 40 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need.  

  • Format: Opportunities listed will require an intern to work from Universal City, CA.

  • Submit a cover letter that highlights your passion for NBCUniversal, the locations (listed below) you are open to for internships, and your top areas of interest (opportunities listed below). 

  • Upload a transcript (unofficial transcripts are fine) that confirms your status as an actively enrolled student in a degree-granting program. 

Corporate Functions: NBCUniversal's Corporate groups are uniquely positioned at the core of our organization.  Employees within these groups use their area of expertise to support all businesses across the company, keeping the heart of each brand at the forefront. There are also business-specific opportunities available, which may be included in the description below.    

Universal Filmed Entertainment Group: (UFEG) consists of the operations to produce, acquire, market and distribute filmed entertainment worldwide in various media formats for theatrical, home entertainment, television and other distribution platforms.  The division operates globally with colleagues spread across 20 countries. We pride ourselves in supporting and amplifying diverse stories told by unique voices. We want to bring in driven, dedicated, and diverse talent into our organization who are just as passionate as we are in continuing to tell stories that reflect our global audience.   

Universal Studio Group: (USG) encompasses NBCUniversal’s television production studios: Universal Television (UTV), Universal Content Productions (UCP), NBCUniversal International Studio, and Universal Television Alternative Studio (UTAS). USG produces over 100 scripted and unscripted series across multiple countries around the globe for buyers in broadcast, cable, and streaming. Network partners include NBC, Peacock, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Apple, HBO, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, CTV, ABC, FOX, and ABC among many others.  

Universal Products & Experiences: (UP&E) globally drives the expansion and elevation of NBCUniversal’s iconic collection of brands, intellectual properties, characters, and stories based on the company’s extensive portfolio of properties created by Universal Pictures, Illumination, DreamWorks Animation, and NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. The division executes this through innovative physical and digital products, engaging retail and product experiences across our expansive global theme park destinations (for both owned and third-party IP), location-based venues, e-commerce product platforms, and retailers around the world. Along with global brand strategy and creative, UP&E’s three lines of business include Consumer Products, Games and Digital Platforms, and Theme Parks Products & Retail. UP&E is a division of Universal Destinations & Experiences, part of NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation. 

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Corporate Legal Rotational: The NBCU Legal Function is hosting a Legal Rotational Experience for law students interested in Entertainment Law. This program is designed to positively impact diversity in the legal profession. The Legal Rotational Experience will be a program that provides training, exposure, and opportunities to law students. Interns will work in one Corporate Legal group and one Business Legal group during the course of the 10 week internship. Responsibilities may include assisting team members with drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of legal agreements, providing timely and thorough analysis on potential risks and issues while proposing practical, responsive solutions, and identifying and implementing improvements to forms and processes. 

  • Corporate Legal – Music Business & Legal Affairs: NBCUniversal Music Business & Legal Affairs services an array of clients in the Film & Television portfolios. Filmed Entertainment encompasses the Universal Pictures Group, Focus Features, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, and Brand Development. The overall landscape of Film includes distinct business functions that each touch a key segment area in the overall lifecycle of a film, from ideation to premiere. On the TV side, there is a vast portfolio of sports, news networks, streaming, entertainment networks, and significant television production operations, including scripted, alternative and late night, and a leading television stations group. This intern’s responsibilities may include the following: researching music rights, analyzing and summarizing music deal terms, drafting music talent agreements, reviewing production content for music information, and assisting with tracking rights, analysis, and grid maintenance.   

  • Global Distribution and International Business & Legal Affairs: NBCUniversal Global Distribution is responsible for the distribution of NBCUniversal product to all forms of television and new media in the U.S. and internationally. This includes a rich library of more than 4,000 feature films and 100,000 television episodes, including current and classic titles, non-scripted programming, long-form and short-form programming, and locally produced content from around the world. Global Distribution and International is a division of Comcast NBCUniversal. The Business and Legal Affairs team supports the Global Distribution Sales team by providing ongoing counsel, advice, and legal documentation related to business and legal issues. An intern in our department will work on various licensing agreements and other contracts related to the licensing of film and television content to various platforms. Through this experience, interns will be exposed to lawyers, sales executives, marketing, and technology experts and various legal matters. 

  • Universal Studio Group Legal Affairs: Interns will assist show lawyers with vetting television show scripts for legal risks, making clearance determinations for production-related materials, and other issue-spotting and analysis. Interns will also conduct legal research on issues that may arise during the production of both unscripted and scripted television shows. 

  • Universal Studio Group Business Affairs: Interns will review deal memos, agreements, and other correspondence, abstract pertinent fee-related details from those documents, summarize relevant deal points, update Salesforce with fee information, and more. 

  • UP&E Business and Legal Affairs (Undergrad): UP&E Business and Legal Affairs is seeking an undergrad intern who will work closely with the team to handle responsibilities such as drafting legal correspondence and other legal documents under the supervision of an attorney or paralegal; communicating with internal and external clients and other studio departments regarding contracts; and working with the Contract Operations team on documents such as deal entries, weekly contract status reports, and final contract reconciliation. 

  • UP&E Business and Legal Affairs (Law Student): UP&E Business and Legal Affairs is seeking a current law student intern who will work closely with the team to handle responsibilities such as drafting outgoing consumer product, videogame, publishing, or promotional license agreements under the supervision of an attorney using forms, templates, and deal memos as guides; communicating with external licensees via email and draft correspondence regarding deals; and researching and developing summaries on the underlying rights or talent issues related to upcoming projects. 

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: 

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (June 2025 through August 2025). May 2025 graduates are not eligible for our Summer 2025 Internship Program. 

  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits). 

  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States. 

  • Must be willing to work in Universal City, CA.

For further clarification, candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.  

NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.   

Desired Characteristics: 

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred. 

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 

  • Self-starter, professional, and ability to adapt.   

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.   

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.) 

  • For Corporate Legal: Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing; Current class standing of 1L or above preferred. 

  • For Corporate Legal Music: Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing; Ability to understand music related concepts and contractual language is a plus; Strong interest in music and/or transactional work. 

  • For USG Legal Affairs: Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing; Current class standing of 2L or above preferred. 

  • For USG Business Affairs: Must be studying in a related field (e.g., Business Administration, Pre-Law, English).

The hourly rate for undergraduate and graduate student interns is $17.50. 

The hourly rate for law student interns is $25.00.
