Position may be in Duluth, Mankato or Minneapolis, MN
The Network Engineer will be working in the Network Engineering Access organization. The Network Engineering Access team manages the following deployed network element including but not limited to LAN, WAN, Fiber-To-The-Home, Metro-Ethernet, DSL, SHDSL, DC Power, DACS, TDM and technologies. The successful incumbent will thrive on change but focus on the operational stability of the supported platforms. IP/Networking background will be the most defining quality the candidate should possess.
The Network Engineer will be responsible for participating as an individual contributor in project teams, troubleshooting operational issues, providing technical solutions to operational problems, new product implementation, and implementing existing products and services. Interface with vendors, other engineering groups, and network operation team. Acts in compliance with industry and company technical requirements, standards, policies, and procedures. Provides technical leadership to technicians and project teams. Has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. May lead teams or projects and shares expertise.
Produce engineering notes and configuration files for projects.
Provides guidance and recommended solutions to complex technical issues.
Ensures projects are fully integrated into the operations environment.
Assist operation groups as needed during test and turn up of projects.
Analyzes data and metrics, identifies problem areas, and provides actionable insight to management.
Provides input to Engineering group and vendors on defects and required enhancements.
Contributes to design considerations for new products or architectural changes to existing products. Assists with or leads efforts to build new application infrastructure, coordinating efforts across teams.
Serves as lead on multiple projects and ability to effectively prioritize those projects so that due dates are met.
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
Consistent and punctual attendance.
Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, electronics, or releated field or 5-7 years of equivalent experience.
Strong IP/Networking background desired
Working knowledge of TCP/IP protocols
Knowledge of DSLAM and GPON technologies
Knowledge of ADSL, SHDSL and GPON characteristics
Knowledge of routing protocols(OSPF or EIGRP)
Experience with supporting and maintaining LAN/ WAN network architectures
Knowledge of Ethernet technologies
Knowledge of AC / DC power plant
Knowledge of Outside Plant designs and architectures
Experience with TDM/VoIP technologies
Good computer skills
Good documentation and communication skills
