Compensation:

  • Hourly Pay Range: Minimum salary is $33.00-$37.00 per hour however a higher salary may be negotiated based upon applicable experience and education.

*This position is eligible for a temporary $4.00 per hour shift differential for all hours worked. This differential is temporary and can end at the Governors discretion.

Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

The Kansas Commission on Veterans Affairs office is looking to add an individual to our agency Information Technology team. This position will be located at the Kansas Veterans’ Home in Winfield, KS.

This unclassified position will typically work M-F, 8 AM – 5 PM. This position is required to be on stand-by and is subject to call back outside of the regular day shift due to the nature of a 24/7 residential care facility that utilizes web-based programs to include electronic medical records.

Minimum salary is $33.00 per hour however a higher salary may be negotiated based upon applicable experience and education. It has an excellent benefits package including health insurance and KPERS retirement. Qualifications:

Education

Prefer: Associate Degree (Information Technology) Network Administration or Information systems.


Prefer applicants with Microsoft Server or MCSE certification and two (2) years’ experience supporting a large multi-building, multi-location, local and wide area network, and tele-communications environments.

Licensing & Certification

  • a valid current Class C Kansas Driver’s license at time of hire and throughout employment.
  • Applicants with CCENT or Microsoft Server, MCP certification preferred

Minimum Qualifications

You must:

  • be a U.S. Citizen or National to apply for this position,
  • have and maintain a valid driver’s license,
  • must be free from felony convictions and successfully pass a fingerprint background check through the FBI and KBI,
  • successfully complete a post-offer drug screening,
  • Microsoft Office Products experience required

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of State IT police and procedures

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server, Microsoft Exchange and DNS
  • Knowledge of Virtual server environment (VMWare)
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP protocols
  • Knowledge of Router, firewall and VPN configurations
  • Knowledge of Cisco VoIP, Toshiba
  • Knowledge of Veeam Backup
  • Knowledge of server hardware, cabling, router, LAN environments, PC desktops and components

Abilities

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network and workstation issues
  • Ability to interpret State and agency regulations and policies and procedures
  • Ability to communicate technical information and conducts training presentation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with Federal and State officials, agency staff, community organizations and the public.

Experience - Length in years and kind

Prefer one year of experience managing, configuring and troubleshooting network, data, and voice and video systems. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Duties:

KVH IT Structure:

  • Responsible for bringing new system on line, interfacing and troubleshooting new and existing issues.
  • Configure, set-up and maintain virtual server environment (VMWare)
  • Maintain domain server/active directory (domain polices, pools and promotion of domain controllers)
  • Develop scripts for network automation
  • Manage group security policies
  • Maintain wireless management
  • Implement/update/maintain network security and infrastructure to ensure data integrity
  • Implement/maintain data disaster recovery scheme to prevent information loss
  • Manage Symantec end point manager and exchange security
  • Maintain QS1 Server (pharmacy)
  • Maintain Point Click Care system
  • Configuration, and administration of a Local Area Network (LAN) This includes establishing and maintaining a Local Area Network which includes hardware, software, and LAN cabling in a large multi-building campus, to allow users to electronically share information, and peripheral devices. This position will maintain the daily operation and administration of the LAN, which includes troubleshooting, problem-solving, and connectivity to the Wide Area Network for connectivity.
  • Administration and maintain of the telecommunications environment (VOIP) at the Kansas Soldiers' Home. This includes installing tele-communication cables, programming the telephone system, and trouble-shooting telecommunications issues. Also includes programming radios for campus communications.
  • Maintain campus security environment(surveillance cameras and key code system)

IT Administrative

  • Develop three-year information technology management plan.(equipment replacement schedule)
  • Work with KVH leadership team to develop information technology five-year capital improvement plan (forecasting future network operational needs) & IT budget plan for the KVH.
  • Provide consultation on requests for the acquisition of information technology hardware, software, telecommunications equipment, and related items and input as requested.


End-users Workstation

  • Installs microcomputer equipment and configures new systems to the agencies specifications. Maintains existing microcomputer equipment by installing new hardware and software upgrades. Ensures hardware and software systems conform to all DISC and KCVAO agency policies and procedures. Provide consultation, trouble-shooting, and problem-solving for end-users on the use of computer hardware and software. Also, as directed by the Information Resource Director, provide support to when needed the Kansas Veterans' Home, Veteran Services Field Service Offices, State Veteran Cemeteries and Central Office.
  • Provide training to staff/end-users on IT infrastructure to include: servers, data, voice, video, and IT security systems, work stations and the use of hardware, software, and telecommunications technology as needed.

Agency IT

  • Provide IT support for western Kansas (Agency Offices, Veteran Services Offices and State Veteran cemeteries)

Special Projects:

  • Performs special assignments, special projects or other related duties as may be delegated by the Information Resources Director, Agency Director and/or program head within time limits and in accordance with special instructions given at the time the assignments, project, or related duty is assigned

  • (X) Plans, staffs, evaluate, and direct work of employees of a work unit.
  • ( ) Delegates authority to carry out work of a unit to subordinate supervisors or managers.
  • Conduct Security Awareness Training for KVH Staff annually and at the Veterans Services Annual VSR Training.
  • Ensures and oversee the accountability of all KVH technology equipment and software. Complete annual IT inventory (due June 1st )


Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements

  • As authorized by the 2018 Kansas Legislature, effective July 1, 2018, K.S.A. 75-4362 is amended to designate all positions with the Kansas Commission on Veterans’ Affairs office, to include both the Kansas Soldiers’ Home and Kansas Veterans’ Home as Safety Sensitive positions and subject to the drug testing program. All applicants with a conditional offer of employment on or after July 1, 2018, shall be required to submit to a drug screening test.
