Who You Are:

TBWA\Chiat\Day is looking for a New Business Director who embodies TBWA's values, attitude, and approach to working. This role will oversee and autonomously run new business pitches of varying sizes, will actively prospect and advocate for the agency, and work closely with the Comms team on projects that advance and enhance the agency's profile among the business community. As the primary source of business health and growth for the agency, an optimistic, positive, and straightforward approach are ideal attributes for this role within this culture-building and business-driving department.

The core of this role will be client-facing and selling the agency to prospects. A deep belief in TBWA\Chiat\Day and what sets us apart from our competition in the industry is a must. You must become an expert on TBWA's company history, purpose/vision, beliefs, cases, current business, and department strategy.

The New Business Director reports directly into the Chief Marketing Officer of TBWA, North America.


What You'll Do:

In general, this role will participate in and manage all agency business development activity. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the below:

Pitches:

  • Setting the agency management and pitch teams up for success through the development of in-depth prospect backgrounders including client, brand, advertising, category, and competitive insight into presentations.
  • Generate chemistry meeting decks including design, suggested cases, and the development of perspectives/observations/provocations on the client's business when needed.
  • Partner with the CMO and identified pitch team in all aspects of pitching for new business. Tasks include, but are not limited to: aiding strategy team with primary and secondary research, helping to identify and resolve resourcing and casting for pitches across all departments, participating in and contributing to strategy and creative reviews, proactively working with resourcing and design to generate deck/design templates for use throughout the pitch process, partner with production and third-party production partners to manage delivery of pitch stimuli and assets.
  • New Business Lead - shows up in the room as the agency lead in pitch presentations and can serve as the primary contact for client pitches in all phases of the process.
  • Partner closely with internal and prospective client administrative professionals to ensure meeting scheduling, logistics, and communications are flawlessly outlined, established, and communicated to all parties.

Prospecting:

  • Partner with the CMO in prospecting strategy development through both researching assigned brands and bringing proactive ideas for target categories, brands, and/or clients.
  • Assist CMO in generating RFIs and RFPs for prospective clients.
  • Partner with CMO to develop the annual growth strategy using industry knowledge, cultural insight, and business acumen to identify target categories and brands.
  • Ongoing and proactive outreach recommendations based on industry news, decision-maker movement, leads, etc.

Transitioning from Prospect to Client:

  • Able to serve on new client transition teams after new business wins, assisting the Business Lead in continuity during the onboarding, ramp-up, and staffing for prospects that have converted into agency clients.

Agency Advocacy:

  • Be a consistent partner to TBWA's comms team, assisting on projects, keeping them informed on new business, and proactively offering ideas for how the agency can show up in the world outside of our work for our clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 8+ years of advertising agency experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to handle complex problems and multi-task
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to flourish in an environment that rewards merit and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and all Google Docs

Location:

Given the nature of the team, we are only considering candidates that currently live in or wish to relocate to New York City.

The annual salary range for this role is $120,000-$180,000 and may vary depending on the candidate's geographic location and experience. Other compensation includes relocation costs, if applicable.
