Night Circulation Coordinator

Serve as sole library staff member responsible for library services and security of material and equipment during late night hours; supervises student workers and serves as liaison to the campus safety officer during this time; oversees library operations Sunday through Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. during the academic year and at other times as needed by the department.

Anticipated Salary Range: $18.00 to $20.77 per hour (plus additional shift differential of $0.50 per hour)

Responsibilities:
  • Provide essential library service to students including basic and more in-depth research services when librarians arent available, assistance with printing, etc.
  • Communicate regularly and clearly with the Building Operations Manager, the rest of the Circulation staff and the library staff in general regarding building concerns, public service issues, and any other issues that come up during late hours.
  • Supervise work study students in the circulation department from 5:00 p.m. until midnight; assign tasks, assist in training, and provide work direction and problem-solving assistance for student workers.
  • Assist with daily processing of material requests and returns in the Prospector consortium.
  • Serve as a primary contact with Campus Safety officers; communicate problems with library supervisors and campus safety supervisors, as needed.
  • Make regular patrols of the building to check on the status of materials, equipment, study rooms, and computer labs.
  • Coordinate closing of the library with Campus Safety officers.
  • Check out books and other materials using library system circulation software.
  • Provide customer service beyond the circulation functions by ensuring that a positive image is maintained in interactions with patrons from campus and the wider community; providing directions, making referrals, and, when needed, providing basic research assistance.
  • Provide basic technical assistance with computing problems related to connectivity, printing and productivity software in the absence of ITS Solutions Center Staff; monitor and report on printer problems.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patron information and protect patron privacy; assist in maintenance of patron database containing confidential information.
  • Maintain current in-depth knowledge of circulation procedures and processes and serve as back-up for coworkers.
  • Conduct head counts to determine late-night building usage.
  • Perform book searches/traces.
  • Assist with stacks maintenance, including but not limited to, shelving, shelf-reading and book-shifting projects.
  • Monitor electric moveable shelving system, and immediately report malfunctions to daytime staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emergency contacts and procedures.
  • Monitor library security gates at library entrances and respond when alarm is activated.

  • Participate in the life of the college through relevant committee and volunteer activities.



Additional Responsibilities:
o Actively support the colleges plan to be an antiracist institution by understanding, engaging with, and promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the college community.
o Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe
situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
o Demonstrate environmental sustainability by using college resources wisely and supporting the colleges sustainability
initiatives and innovation.
o Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Two years of college/associates degree or equivalent work experience plus a minimum of two years of public service experience; excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills; attention to detail and ability to exercise good judgment in unusual situations; proficient in computer operations; ability to stay calm in emergency situations; ability to work usual schedule of 5pm to midnight, Sunday through Thursday; ability to operate standard office equipment; moderate physical effort (lifting up to 50 pounds); ability to push fully-loaded book cart.

Preferred Qualifications:
Library experience; knowledge of library and network software.
