Maintenance Supervisor

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor ensures all maintenance work, scheduled and unscheduled, is performed fully on production machineries and equipment to ensure maximum plant efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned hourly maintenance team members
  • Lead in troubleshooting plant equipment.
  • Coordinate maintenance personnel to ensure each shift and team has adequate resources and the training necessary to perform daily job tasks
  • Maintain adequate supply of critical spare parts in maintenance shops
  • Purchase parts as required for specific jobs
  • Initiate outside service purchase requisitions and coordinate execution with contractors for such items as component repairs, on-site maintenance, equipment cleaning, etc.
  • Investigate and provide specialized equipment to improve safety, quality, and reliability
  • Update statistical boards and actively participate in daily tier meetings
  • Serve on 6 Sigma, quality, safety, and maintenance teams as required
  • Assist in training efforts of area personnel through procedure writing/modifications, conducting sessions, bringing in outside resources, purchasing training materials and equipment, etc.
  • Work with the EH&S Manager and maintenance leadership to investigate improvements in personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Identify alternate sources of material to reduce costs
  • Ensure safety and departmental policies and procedures are followed
  • Initiate and document the initial investigation of safety and environmental issues
  • Work with operators to identify unsafe acts and conditions
  • Establishes department goals and ensures all stated goals are met
  • Will hold direct reports accountable and responsible to comply with all safety/Lock Out/Tag Out rules and guidelines. Follow / apply corrective action policy when necessary; commend team members who are observed following safe practices
  • Assist in planning and implementing large-scale maintenance shutdown projects
  • Utilize the Computer Maintenance Management System to ensure timely completion of preventive / predictive maintenance, follow-up work and, unscheduled maintenance
  • Strategically utilize maintenance personnel to ensure work teams are monitored to provide the most effective method to work safely and efficiently, while delivering a level of high-quality work
  • Ensure all production equipment is running at top efficiency while complying with OSHA / Nokian Tyres regulations
  • Provide performance evaluation, training and development of all direct reports, managing issues of discipline/termination
  • Direct and maintain 5S efforts in the maintenance department.
  • Approve time of direct reports.
  • Work closely with the maintenance planner to plan maintenance days and adjust schedules as required to satisfy Production needs.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Must be able to communicate effectively at various levels of the organization
  • Must be able to lead employees and assure they are completely tasks and working safely
  • Demonstrated ability to work on complex issues and to develop resolutions via in-depth evaluation of factors and/or frequent use of creativity
  • Proven ability to set and communicate challenging team goals and to achieve them through collaborative team leadership
  • Data driven and analytic with technical ability to solve complex problems and exercise judgement based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.
  • Statistical aptitude
  • Experience identifying maintenance expenditures, downtime, etc. and analyzing data to recommend areas of improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals in team based environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent experience and technical training/education
  • Minimum of 5 years manufacturing maintenance experience with minimum of 3 years in a leadership role
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge/certification a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with CMMS software (Maximo, MP2, SAP, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of root cause analysis, predictive and preventative maintenance systems
  • Project management experience
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position will not offer relocation or visa sponsorship.

Physical Requirements and Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout assigned working hours
  • Frequent reaching, grasping, bending, and stooping
  • Must be able to tolerate odor from raw materials, freshly cured tires and hot materials
  • Frequent pulling and/or pushing up to 20 lbs independently, and occasional pushing and/or pulling up to 35 lb independently, and greater weights with mechanical automation assistance
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 lbs independently, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 lbs independently, and greater weights with mechanical automation assistance
  • Must be able to frequently engage in repetitive motions requiring substantial movement of the wrist, hands and/or fingers
  • Adequate vision to read work instructions, job aids and guides, and detect imperfections in raw materials, tooling and finished product
  • Ability to work in environment with limited climate control and varied temperature levels
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in an environment with continual noise, requiring the ability to hear, understand and communicate work instructions and directions while wearing company provided hearing protection
  • Must be able to be frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment mechanical equipment and vibration
