Default Servicing at Valon

The Default Servicing team manages all default-related processes and resolves mortgage loans that are in default. The team is crucial to Valon and the broader mortgage ecosystem, as it helps prevent foreclosures and minimize losses for investors. Homeowner transparency and financial literacy is always focal point to our people, process, and product and we strive to help homeowners who need additional support to keep their dream of homeownership alive.

About the Role

The Non-Routine/Litigation Team Manager will be responsible for managing complex high-risk and litigation matters for Valon, our Clients, and Investors. This position interfaces with all areas of servicing and is responsible for key initiatives around operational efficiencies and risk mitigation. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing and bringing to resolution complex matters, strong communication and negotiation skills, and a thorough understanding of mortgage servicing laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and bring to resolution high-risk and litigation matters, including but not limited to, contested foreclosure actions, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, title curative actions, and other legal proceedings related to mortgage servicing.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel, the internal legal, risk and compliance (LRC) team, and other business units to develop resolution strategies and mitigate risks.
  • Provide timely and accurate updates on high risk and litigation matters to internal and external stakeholders, including other business units, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior management and the business unit, regarding future steps that the team should take to support the vision provided.
  • Monitor and report on litigation trends and developments, and provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Responsible for adhering to all regulatory guidelines: Federal, State, Investor, Insurer, State, as well as Valon company's policies.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities and risks while overseeing the improvement of risk assessment and management practices.
  • Works in ambiguity to operationalize and improve operational efficiency at the ground level.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in mortgage default servicing, with an emphasis on managing and bringing to resolution complex high risk and litigation matters
  • 3+ years of experience in a corporate witness role (trials, depositions, mediations, settlements, etc) on behalf of prior servicers, Clients and Investors
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage servicing laws and regulations, including but not limited to: Federal, State, Investor, Insurer and State
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal matters and resolution strategies to non-legal stakeholders, as well as Clients and Investors
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to break down and apply complex legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
