Visit us at https://jobs.hr.ncsu.edu/.Department: 192001 - CVM Teaching HospitalLocation: Raleigh, NCEssential Job Duties:Duties include but are not limited to:• Provide primary technical support for the End of Life Care service.• Assist veterinarians with and perform examinations, assessments, treatments, animal handling, and restraint.• Participate in client education and offer enhanced communication skills & empathy for patients & clients.• Assist with and independently provide in-hospital and in-home consultations.• Routinely provide quality of life assessments and patient progress reports.• Offer patient and client support in pain management, nutrition, mobility, rehabilitation, and end of life process.• Provide an empathetic approach to sharing knowledge of terminal illness & death, and the overall grief process.• Provide secondary technical support for the Small Animal Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine service.• Teach 4th-year veterinary students and clients approaches and techniques for providing palliative medicine and hospice care.• Maintain appropriate medical records.• Ensure good communication and collaboration with all ancillary services and other areas of the hospital.Other Work/Responsibilities:• Other duties as assigned.Minimum Experience/Education:Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.Required Qualifications:• Previous veterinary technician experience in a clinical setting• Technical skills: sample collection (i.e. venipuncture), medication & sedation administration, drug calculations, "low stress" animal handling, general care principles, geriatric care principles, basic rehabilitation skills.• Ability to effectively use MS Word and Excel.• Ability to communicate professionally and effectively at all times and maintain professionalism in emotionally charged / challenging situations.• Excellent customer service skills.• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.• Ability to work beyond scheduled work hours when needed.• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and actively participate in problem-solving.• Ability to work independently and practice good judgment.Preferred Qualifications:• Previous veterinary technician experience in a teaching institution• Previous experience with end of life care and euthanasia process• Fear Free certification• Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy (CAETA) certificate program• Certified Peaceful Euthanasia Professional (CPEP)Required license or certification:• Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of NC or qualified to sit for the NC State exam.• NC Driver's License is required and must be maintained as a condition of employment.Position Number: 00062866AA/EEO Statement:NC State University is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer.
