Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Job DescriptionTo perform at the highest standard when maintaining the safety of all individuals who are on and / or insider the premises of Bellevue Hospital.General task and responsibilities will include :• Perform duties in a professional and efficient manner in order to provide a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.• Perform duties in proper uniform as indicated at Roll Call or as dictated by his / her immediate supervisor.• Answer telephones in a courteous and professional manner; identify your department name (i.e. Bellevue Hospital Police, Office Jones, how may I help you? )• Proceed to his / her assigned area promptly and without delay.• Comply with meal and post relief breaks as directed• Report any unusual crime and safety hazards to the Patrol Supervisor and / or the Central Dispatcher.• Conduct safety patrols to include fire prevention, smoke violations, ward visitation restrictions and visitor’s hours, roof and ground floor door alarm inspections in accordance with established policies and procedures.• Enforce rules and regulations as required of uniformed Hospital Police personnel.• Do not use facility computers unless authorized to do so or enter into areas that are restricted according to hospital regulations.• Render all necessary police service in your assigned area and as otherwise directed.• Keep the Desk Office or supervisor informed of Hospital Police services rendered.• Investigate suspicious conditions and circumstances on assigned post.• Maintain a memo book and produce as requested by any uniformed Hospital Police supervisor, Chief of Hospital Police, Assist Chief of Hospital Police, or other competent authority.Minimum QualificationsCertification(s) / NYS License(s) :1. Candidates must satisfy the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officer certification prior to beginning their official tour of duty.Once obtained, this certification must be maintained for the duration of employment. Continuous employment with NYC Health + Hospitals, is contingent upon satisfactory completion of both entry level and annual recertification training programs.2. Candidates must have reached their 20th birthday by the date of appointment.3. Candidate must be United States Citizens and resident of the City of New York at the toe, pf appointment; and• 4. Candidate must be of good character. The following are among the factors which may be caused for disqualifications : (a) conviction of an offense, the nature of which indicates lack of good moral character, or disposition toward violence or disorder, or which is punishable by one or more years of imprisonment;• b) two or more convictions of an offense, where such convictions indicate a disrespect for the law; (c) discharge from employment, where such discharge indicates poor behavior or inability to adjust to discipline;d) dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces.Educational Level :1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; or an2.
