Occasional Educational Assistant

Hours may vary Monday through Friday between 7:30 and 5:30 up to 1000 hours per fiscal year. Under general supervision, assists with providing on-site early childhood education and supervision for infants, toddlers, and preschool children when teachers are sick and/or on vacation, teacher breaks, planning times, and kitchen duties.

Anticipated Salary Range: On-Call/Temp (starts at $15.00 per hour)

Responsibilities:
  • Assists in providing for the physical and emotional needs of the children to include safety, health, intellectual and emotional development.
  • Assists the teacher in providing developmentally an appropriate early childhood education program for the class as a whole and for individual children.
  • Uses a variety of appropriate behavior management techniques and positive reinforcement to maintain a positive relaxed atmosphere. Implement positive guidance that is appropriate for the developmental level of the children.
  • Interact appropriately with children to provide opportunities to develop self-esteem, social competence, and integrated development in all areas with adults and peers.
  • Assists in identifying and analyzing childrens needs using observation, reporting, discussion, and follow-up with the classroom teacher.
  • Maintain positive communication with families.
  • Maintains supplies and equipment with other staff members to include kitchen, food service, art materials and basement resource storage.
  • Responsible for food handling to meet USDA and sanitation regulations as required by the Colorado Health Department.
  • Ensure that materials, equipment and learning environment are safe, healthy and developmentally appropriate.
  • Administer and document first aid and CPR when necessary.
  • Report any suspected case of neglect or abuse to a Child Protection Agency or Department of Human Services.
  • Responsible for maintaining confidentiality in matters pertaining to children and families.
  • Know the concepts, theories, and principles of early childhood best practices and child development, and be able to generalize to all situations.



Additional Responsibilities:
o Actively support the colleges plan to be an antiracist institution by understanding, engaging with, and promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity in the college community.
o Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe
situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
o Demonstrate environmental sustainability by using college resources wisely and supporting the colleges sustainability
initiatives and innovation.
o Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Must hold current Early Childhood Teacher certification. For Education and experience requirements see current Colorado State requirements for Early Childhood Teacher and refer to the 7.702-7.704 Colorado State requirements. Must be at least 18 years of age. Minimum of fifteen hours annual participation in professional development programs required. Infant nursery supervisor training and experience may apply. State approved Adult and Child CPR, First Aid and Medical administration training including Standard Precaution Procedures. Must have current pre-employment physical examination, proof of current vaccinations, knowledge of infectious diseases and preventative measures to reduce the spread of disease, and a working knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices with young children. Proficient with computer software programs such as Word and photo/print programs; excellent oral and written communication skills; proven ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds; proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and basic business math; ability to think critically and solve problems; good judgment, organizational, and customer service skills, and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion. Must be flexible and able to react appropriately to active children. Frequent bending, standing, crawling, stooping, reaching, carrying, and pushing; moderate physical effort (lifting to 50 lbs.) Environment is frequently noisy and often involves working on the floor or with small chairs/tables. Exposure to infectious diseases. Ability to operate telephone, copying machine, television, DVD/VCR, tape player, dishwasher, stove, microwave, stroller, personal computer, printer, fax machine, washer/dryer, etc. Nebulizer, portable oxygen tank, and heart/respiratory monitor used when required.

Employment is contingent upon a fingerprint investigation and subsequent monitoring through the CBI and FBI.

Preferred Qualifications:
Credential or AA degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
