Senior Director, HR Business Partner

Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.

Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.

This is a US-based, remote-first role that involves regular interaction and collaboration with Oura colleagues in Finland and across the US.

Travel: Much of the work can be done remotely. However, the role requires occasional travel to work with Oura colleagues. Oura has offices in San Francisco and San Diego; employees in New York and Boston gather regularly in co-working spaces. Occasional travel to Finland, once or twice a year, may also be required for this role.

Time zones: Finland is in the Eastern European Time Zone, which is 10 hours ahead of US Pacific Time; for example, 7 AM in San Francisco is 5 PM in Finland. Standard office hours in Finland are 9 AM to 5 PM. For this role, applicants should expect regular meetings between the hours of 6 AM and 9 AM Pacific, and be open to occasional meetings even earlier, or sometimes, very late in the evening Pacific time.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this role will be a member of the People Leadership Team, collaborating to develop and strengthen the whole People function. In addition, the role will partner closely with Oura’s C-level leaders and their teams to develop and implement human resources strategies that align with and support ambitious growth objectives, working at the functional level as well as the company level. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned HR professional with a proven track record of success in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. This is an individual contributor role; the ideal candidate will lead through influence and excel through collaboration.

What you will do:

  • Strategic Partnership:
    • Build strong, trust-based relationships, especially with colleagues on the People Leadership Team, Oura’s C-level leaders, and their leadership teams
    • Act as a strategic advisor on all people-related matters, including organizational design, talent acquisition, employee development, compensation and benefits, performance management, and employee relations
    • Proactively identify and address potential people-related risks and challenges.
  • Organizational Development:
    • As a member of the People Leadership Team, take a broad, global, company-wide perspective, complemented by function-specific knowledge
    • Advise on organizational design to drive efficiency and effectiveness as the company grows
    • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Talent Management:
    • Collaborate with Oura’s Talent Acquisition team to develop and implement effective talent acquisition strategies to attract, hire, and retain top talent
    • Guide leaders on performance management processes, including performance reviews and compensation decisions
    • Help to ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations; as needed, investigate and resolve employee relations issues
  • This Space Intentionally Left Blank:
    • Oura is growing and changing quickly; this role will evolve as the company does

We'd love to consider you for this role if you have:

  • Extensive and diverse experience in a range of HR roles; the successful candidate will likely have at least 15 years of experience, including at least 5 years of experience in at least 2 different HRBP roles
  • Proven experience building trust-based relationships with C-level executives and senior leadership teams
  • Demonstrated success in supporting high-growth companies and navigating the complexities of a scaling organization
  • International experience, including familiarity with different employment laws and practices
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and draw meaningful insights
  • Excellent communication skills, with proven ability to engage and motivate diverse audiences using a range of tools

Bonus points for:

  • Experience working in a large, scaled, global company environment
  • Experience designing and implementing private company compensation programs and/or international compensation programs
  • Experience managing people; although this is an individual contributor role, people management experience can be helpful when coaching leaders and leading through influence

At Oura, we care about you and your well-being. Everyone here at Oura has a ring of their own and we are continually looking to improve employee health.

What we offer:

  • Health, dental, vision insurance, and mental health resources
  • An Oura Ring of your own plus employee discounts for friends & family
  • 20 days of paid time off plus 13 paid holidays plus 8 days of flexible wellness time off
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave

Oura takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
