Job Description

We are looking for exceptional collaborative Lead Electronics Development Engineer to join our team. You will have the chance to impact products developed for some of the biggest brands in the world while solving complex and ambitious engineering problems.

The role will involve engaging with clients and supporting other team members to win new business. The work will be in a fast-paced, collaborative and supportive environment, surrounded by people who want to deliver the very best for our clients. You will operate in multi-functional teams where our engineers work closely with designers and researchers to deliver new and exciting products and experiences.

You will work to support across the whole product development cycle, from concept electronic platforms through to the creation of functioning technology demonstrators, and ultimately the delivery of products. You will build and lead the electronics team needed to support innovative new product development and collaborate with your peers at our electronics centre in Cambridge, UK.

We are an organisation that focuses on bringing ingenuity to life and seek individuals who bring this mindset in the development of advanced electronic and electro-mechanical solutions.

Become part of the team

Our focus is on developing technology that harnesses the power of ingenuity to build a positive-human future in a technology-driven world. We solve complex problems in highly collaborative teams of industry-leading experts across industrial design, electronics, software development, mechanical engineering, and applied science. This team synergy has delivered multiple decades of award-winning transformational product solutions to our clients.

We recognise unique talent through professional development and career progression which is tailored to the individual’s needs, facilitating the growth of every team member and equipping them with the tools they need to excel.

PA Consulting offers a career in consulting, not just a job; a stake in our firm; and an environment where individuals and ideas matter.

Flexible working - We are guided by our client work and needs; however, you have autonomy to manage your time and diary to suit your work/life balance.

Qualifications

You will work across the whole development lifecycle for clients, offering a rare opportunity to work on early concept ideas and to see your ideas launched in the market.

Clients approach us with unique challenges that require a creative outlook and an adaptable skill set. The key technologies for our current projects include but are not limited to embedded platforms, battery and charging management, wearable technologies and close integration of novel electronics and mechanical design. We expect electronics will be a growth area for our business and we are looking for someone who can lead and shape that growth potential and help build a strong team around them.

This is an electronics-centric role, but it also demands good, embedded software and product development skills.

We are looking for candidates ideally with the following technical skills. If you have some of the skills listed but not all, we would still like to hear from you.

  • A track record of developing consumer embedded system architectures where functions are partitioned between hardware and software and where the form factor poses unique integration challenges.
  • Excellent concept ideation skills with the ability to work with product and marketing teams to translate product visions into realisable electronics architectures.
  • An excellent understanding of technologies used in advanced electronic products including low power processors, wireless communications SoCs, edge AI techniques and battery management solutions.
  • Strong embedded software skills – especially low-level C-coding, device drivers and platform bring up.
  • Comfortable working close to the electronics platform and working across electronics-mechanical and software-electronics boundaries.
  • Exposure to the full product lifecycle from concept generation through to product release including demonstrable experience of delivering your designs into consumer research trials and to the market.
  • A good understanding of the regulatory landscape of the EU and US and a proven track record of designing for compliance with appropriate standards for Consumer Electronics products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable explaining complex engineering concepts to both a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Someone who can Mentor and coach more junior members of the team in technical and career development areas and help create a collaborative and inclusive culture.

We know the skill-gap and ‘somewhat need to tick every box’ can get in the way of meeting brilliant candidates, so please don’t hesitate to apply – we’d love to hear from you.
