Events Manager

Description

You: You’re passionate about designing event content that educates and engages diverse audiences, and you’re eager to put your skills to work developing unique programs that engage a broad portfolio of audiences on PLF’s legal work in a tangible way. Most importantly, you’re not content with maintaining the status quo and have big ideas about how to educate, engage, and inspire our audiences with both in-person and virtual programming.

Them: Bureaucrats, city councils, mayors, governors, and federal agencies stripping Americans of their rights every day. There’s a lot of government overreach out there, and it’s backed by seemingly endless resources. But fortunately, like all lumbering giants, abusive government is most vulnerable when countered by individuals who act strategically and nimbly, take calculated risks, have each other’s backs, and are confident in and passionate for the cause—the very sort of swashbucklers we employ in spades here at PLF.

Us: We fight back. Pacific Legal Foundation is the nation’s first and most successful public interest law firm dedicated to vindicating individual liberty. PLF has an unmatched record in the United States Supreme Court, with 18 victories out of 20 cases heard by the Court. We also have more than a hundred active cases across the nation.

We are a next-generation public interest law firm. What does “next generation” mean for a legal nonprofit? It means we aren’t interested in doing the same thing as everyone else. We aspire to be the best player in a constantly changing game.

Here’s what you get to do in this role:

You’ll work across the company to identify and capitalize on opportunities for PLF to advance the national conversation on our areas of expertise. Then, you’ll be responsible for designing programming that spurs deep discussion, inspires action, and invites participants to carefully consider legal and policy issues. In essence, your job is to design industry-leading conversations about some of our country’s most pressing issues. You’ll work in collaboration with the events team and communications strategists to develop a comprehensive portfolio of programming that advances PLF’s legal, public education, and legislative goals. This includes both in-person and virtual programming ranging from hour-long webinars to multi-day conferences, seminars, and experimental event models.

In practice, your specific job duties will likely include

  • Identifying opportunities for events that support PLF’s communication strategy, litigation goals, and policy priorities, with an eye towards engaging the full spectrum of our target audience segments.
  • Developing creative, out of the box event content and programming, in collaboration with internal experts.
  • Managing front-end event development, from conception to implementation
  • Drafting event proposals & run-of-show outlines.
  • Analyzing event performance and using data-driven insights to inform future programming.
  • Assisting with day-of event logistics, as needed.

This role is ideal for someone with:

  • At least 3 years of experience in events, curriculum development, or similar.
  • Experience pitching & developing creative, engaging event programming.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience crafting content for internal and external audiences, and the ability to adapt tone and style for diverse platforms and audiences.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once and collaborate effectively with large, complex project teams.
  • A solutions-oriented, decision-making mindset.
  • A demonstrated interest in, and knowledge of, contemporary legal and/or policy issues—as well as thought leaders in these areas.
  • Ability to work effectively & respectfully with individuals across the political spectrum.
  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and experience in digital marketing platforms such as Pardot and Salesforce would be a plus.
  • Willing to travel up to 30% of the year.
