Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical lead for specification, design, and implementation of packing materials for incoming components and raw materials.
- Works closely with The FBPS supplier development team to ensure supplier-provided packaging meets FBPS quality requirements and when appropriate meets FBPS production line side compatibility.
- Services a product expert for packaging of FBPS products which include large lithium-ion batteries, electronics assemblies, and mechanical hardware (kit form or individual pieces).
- Stays abreast of international dangerous goods transport regulations and the impact on the packaging for FBPS products.
- Responsible for achieving and maintaining regulatory compliance of packaging when prescribed by regulatory standards.
- Involved with FBPS commercial team to ensure that FBPS product packaging meets or exceeds customer requirements. This may include the implementation of returnable or expendable dunnage.
- Proactively support product development teams to ensure that the product design enables safe and efficient packaging and the correct level protection from influences which may occur during transport.
- Provide a technical support role for the FBPS logistics team to ensure regulatory compliance when packaging materials or products classified as dangerous goods.
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Packaging Engineering strongly desired. Degrees in relevant fields such as Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering may be considered with sufficient experience in the packaging industry.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a field related to packaging engineering within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge and/or demonstrated lean manufacturing experience (Kanban, Kaizen, Water spider, or VSM)
- Wide range of knowledge relating to the packaging industry materials and best practices.
- Working knowledge of CAD and proficiency with technical drawings, tolerancing, and specification.
- Working knowledge of dangerous goods transport law pertaining to packaging is strongly desired but not a firm prerequisite.
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills – position requires strong interaction in multi-functional team environment particularly in high-pressure situations (e.g., launch).
- Must have experience launching of products into production in relevant industry (Large battery or electromechanical subsystems is desired).
- Minimal travel is expected. Travel may include visits to strategic suppliers and temporarily increase at times when bringing on new suppliers or launching a new product.
