Parent Support Mentor

The Parent Support Mentor provides education and supportive services to children and families in child protective services by providing peer-to-peer support and mentoring to biological parents to assist in the integration of family voice into children’s supportive services, policies, and practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to observe/interact with children across the age range (0-18) and their parents/caregivers.
Excellent writing skills.
Ability to provide support, education and encouragement to clients and family members.
Ability to use personal experiences as a tool to support others.
Demonstrated personal qualities that promote collaboration and partnerships with the child welfare system such as integrity, good listening skills, ability to empathize, and a positive attitude.

Required Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent
Must have a lived experience working with child protection services
Must have reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in psychology/social work or related field
A biological parent with prior lived experience with child protection services
Spanish language fluency – oral and written
