Part-time Human Services Associate

Introduction

The Prince William County Department of Social Services, Homeless Services Division, is hiring an experienced, Part-Time Human Services Associate who will be responsible for providing high level customer service for participants who access our drop-in center and 24/7 emergency shelter program located in Woodbridge, VA. ABOUT THIS ROLE:
The Part-Time Human Services Associates will report to the Human Services Program Manager and be responsible for completing intake paperwork, food preparation, serving meals, entering data into our database, interacting with community partners, and referring participants to social services programs/agencies. The ideal candidates will have experience working with at-risk populations in a human services environment and experience overcoming barriers in a homeless shelter. Seeking someone with a positive approach, the ability to multitask and knowledge of community resources. Candidate must be responsible and able to work with limited supervision. The ideal candidate will have 1 year of experience working with homeless individuals/families. They must also possess time management, strong interpersonal skills, and knowledge of the homeless populations and their challenges.


MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or G.E.D. and 1 year of related experience.


PREFERENCES:

We require a high school diploma or GED. and 1 year of related experience. The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • 1 year of work experience with homeless individuals.
  • Experience collaborating with community partners who assist the homeless population.
  • Ability to identify crisis situations and refer to appropriate professional staff.
  • General knowledge of available community resources

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
6:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Extended hours due to inclement weather and heat advisory until 3:30 p.m.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a valid driver’s license. The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment background check. All DSS staff members are required to provide emergency human services work in the event of an emergency disaster.

ENTRY SALARY RANGE: $22.68 - 33..35/hr.
