Patient Advocate and Volunteer Services Coordinator in the Patient Experience Office


The Department of Patient Relations and Volunteer Services is responsible for providing open lines of communication and complaint resolution, and for operating the Hospital Volunteer Program. This includes the interview, orientation, recruitment and retention of adult and youth volunteers. The Patient Advocate / Volunteer Coordinator would report directly to the Director of Patient Relations and Volunteer Services and would be responsible for assisting in the overall goals and objectives of the Department.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • One year of Healthcare Field experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Maintains all Departmental calendars and budget information.
  • Serves as a representative for the Director of Patient Relations in their absence at all Departmental meetings.
  • Develops program to track all Lost-Items. Maintain database of all lost items, and their resolution. Maintain list of all items reimbursed.
  • Maintain database of all Patient Complaints.
  • Provides patient advocacy services for the Department. Rounds daily on patient floors to provide service recovery. Triages incoming calls for patient relations, prioritizing responses. Follows up on all Hotline calls to resolution. Records all complaints and grievances in complaint management database to manage daily work and ensure compliance with response time. Forwards concerns to appropriate personnel, including Risk manager and Patient Privacy Officer based on the concerns.
  • Coordinates all Volunteer Program activities to include the:
    • Develop Recruitment and retention plan.
    • Conduct all Interviews.
    • Provide on-going JCAHO and Customer Service training efforts.
    • Coordinate needs assessments, training, and follow-up of all volunteers with appropriate Department Heads, instituting changes.
    • Organize and coordinate the Volunteer Awards reception held annually.
