Job Summary: The Dispatcher monitors ADT/bed tracking board utilizing the central dispatch computer system to ensure that patient transports and discharges are performed in a timely manner according to departmental goals, productivity metrics, and priorities. Provides input regarding Patient Transporter productivity to the Supervisor. Provides assistance with employee training. Conducts patient transports, assists with evaluating equipment needs, repairs, and cleaning as needed.

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: None. CPR preferred.

Work Experience: 6 months - 1 year related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner. Demonstrates ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information and hospital sensitive information. Ability to administer/supervise departmental operations including budgeting, staffing, and interdepartmental relations. Ability to demonstrate self-initiative and motivation, provide leadership, improve performance, accept challenges, and maintain composure in stressful situations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Monitors the dispatch function of the central dispatch computer system; communicates any transport delays or concerns. Reassigns jobs as needed. Monitors employee breaks and productivity; communicates employee concerns to supervisor or manager. Transports patients and equipment to/from designated areas as required. Assists in lifting, turning, and transferring patients to/from bed, chair, stretcher, or other applicable transport equipment. Assists manager or supervisor with staff training. Communicates with patient care staff regarding patient transports, discharges, and equipment needs. Makes the appropriate scheduling changes. Attends all required education training. Is current with CPR certification and inoculations. Cleans transport equipment as required, including changing linens and reports any equipment malfunctions to supervisor or manager. Assists with stretcher and wheelchair audits.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions involving non-routine problems under general supervision.

Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
