Under direct supervision, transports patients, specimens, equipment, records, charts and supplies throughout the Medical Center in a safe, timely, efficient and courteous manner. Initiates wheelchair, stretcher and bed inventory control to assure adequate par level allocation of this equipment for nursing units and departments, and cleans patient rooms, cubicles and nursing units.
Education
High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience
Skills
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to transport and transfer patients including morgue patients.
Ability to work well under time constraints and to work effectively as a team member.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Licensures, Certifications
Heart Saver (CPR Certification) within 30 days of start date
Physical Requirements
Manual dexterity required for handling patients, equipment and supplies.
Ability to push, pull, tug or lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to lift patients and carry items, supplies and equipment.
Ability to stand, walk and push for extended periods of time.
Ability to transport stretcher patients, up to 250 lbs., unaided
Working Conditions
Moderate exposure to danger of injury from lifting patients and carrying items.
Risk of occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
Possible exposure to inclement weather upon discharge of patients.
Some exposure to cleaning and disinfecting chemicals.
