Job Description Summary
BASIC FUNCTION:

Perform a variety of human resources generalist duties in support of departmental functions; research and compile data and information for use in decision-making; participate in projects as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Director of Personnel Services, as well as the AVP for HRA, participate in activities and projects that support the University’s strategic goals related to human resources:

Manage the employees’ tuition waiver program for coursework and degrees at URI, CCRI and RIC; determine employee, spouse, domestic partner and dependent children eligibility in accordance with the Board of Trustees tuition waiver policy and applicable union contracts; process tuition waiver requests and FERPA forms for University employees; handle billing process for reimbursing RIC and CCRI for URI employee tuition waivers at their institutions; troubleshoot issues; prepare reports on utilization each semester.

Assist the Director of Personnel Services in the administration of employee immigration matters; work with the University’s approved immigration attorney on the processing of all paperwork for both incoming and existing faculty and staff regarding H-1B and PERM/green card applications and status; prepare reports related to immigration status for the Director.

Assist the Director of Personnel Services in the monitoring and processing of nonclassified employees’ six month and final probationary performance evaluation reports; disseminate the reports to hiring managers for their probationary employees, and track submission of completed documents to the Director of Personnel Services for review.

Handle the processing of all University documents requiring the Director’s signature, including invoice vouchers, college requisitions, independent contractor questionnaires and various other paperwork; disseminate signed documents to appropriate departments in the workflow mapping system.

Respond to telephone and written inquiries and assist the Director in the maintenance of their records/files system. Draft correspondence as directed.

Assist the Director in researching internal payroll issues prior to the Director’s signature on requests.

Participate in other departmental projects and activities as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participate in HR department projects and related duties as assigned.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

PeopleSoft HR software modules for Higher Education, personal computers and printers, Microsoft Office Suite, including excel spreadsheets and database management software, telephones, calculators.

Required Qualifications
REQUIRED:

1. Bachelor’s degree.

2. Minimum two years’ experience in human resources or related work.

3. Demonstrated experience working with higher education enterprise software systems, such as PeopleSoft Oracle or Banner or a related system.

4. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communications skills.

5. Demonstrated proficiency in written communications skills.

6. Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting federal, state or institutional regulations.

7. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
