Position Information


The Texas Department of Transportation is hiring a photographer/video producer to join their Media Production branch. In this fast paced work environment, this role collaborates with a talented team and also works individually on various projects. An estimated 30% of the job is overnight or out of town work. Projects will be varied from portraits in the studio with executives to on location in the field with crews around the state. This role helps tell the story of the agency, it's 12,000+ employees, and their clients to an internal and external audience through photo and video projects.


Minimum Salary: 70,000.00 Maximum Salary: 75,000.00 Pay Basis: Yearly

Position Description


Producer creates short and long-form video at broadcast standard, and develops digital media content to include images, animations, and audio production, for internal and external audiences. Producer coordinates locations, talent, venues, and travel. Coordinates with clients, performs research, creates storyboards and scripts, records video and directs talent, and edits video including audio and graphic elements.


Essential Duties:

  • Photography, lighting, scriptwriting, video editing, videography, storyboarding, graphic creation and animation, streaming video, live video production.
  • Coordinates with clients and directs the research, production of audiovisual communications media. Assesses project requirements with clients and supervisors; defines audience and specifies goals.
  • Acts as liaison with experts to produce media on specific areas of technical expertise.
  • Operates broadcast quality equipment to produce video presentations and activities.
  • Trains and/or provides photographic technical expertise to other department personnel.
  • Selects appropriate audio elements to include narration, music, and sound effects.
  • Travels as required to perform production work in the field and/or studio.
  • Develops information and educational programs for employees and the public.
  • Researches, plans, develops, and produces various written, audio, visual, and photographic materials, which include scripts and storyboards.
  • Researches current and new technology to give recommendations for production purchases
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Photography, Video Production or Communications or related disciplines. Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Experience: 5 years writing, editing, journalism or communications related activities. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud: Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects, Lightroom, Audition

Competencies:

  • The use of photographic equipment
  • Video and film camera operation methods and techniques
  • Planning, directing, coordinating and scheduling
  • Written and oral communications
  • Photographic processes and techniques
  • Photographer coordinates with clients and staff, shoots portraits in and out of a studio environment, works in the field, edits the images, and delivers on by specified deadline.
  • Work involves providing diverse, complex information through multiple types of media and overseeing production processes and specifying, managing, and using sophisticated media production and broadcast equipment.
  • Work requires contact with the public. Work involves communicating information in person, electronically, and via phone.
  • Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Medium work: Lift up to 35 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 35 lbs
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time
  • Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
