POB Attendant
General Summary
Provides safe, timely and accurate transport service to non-ambulatory outpatient patients of the Medical Center. This position is responsible for greeting and responding to the needs of all patients and visitors by providing information, high quality customer service and support in a timely manner. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides curbside transport service to patients and visitors. Greet s; all staff and visitors with a smile. Ensures the safe, timely and accurate transport of patients to their destination.
2. Ensures the comfort of the patient by being attentive, engaging in appropriate conversation involving the patient and making sure the proper equipment is available upon request
3. Follows proper procedures when working with the dispatcher working the transport desk. Take on the responsibility to call the dispatcher on the telephone when the radio is not working. Notifies dispatcher of delays and cancellations. Clears calls immediately after transports are completed.
4. Assist in the upkeep of the lobby. Stores wheelchairs neatly in wheelchair room.
5. Maintain an awareness of what is going on in the Medical Center. Report all unusual occurrences and all security issues to Rush security.
6. Report building issues (such as any damage to the facility) to Medical Center Engineering. Work together with staff and Lead Door Attendant to solve problems using teamwork and professional demeanor.
7. Alert; clinical staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or alerts management of equipment malfunction.
8. Proactive in the achievement of the departmental goals and objectives.
9. Work with hospital transport, medical staff, firemen, or disaster team to aid those in need. Restore order to the area once aid is no longer needed.
10. Additional duties and projects as assigned.
Performance Expectations
- Makes and carries out independent decisions when dealing with ill or handicapped patients, Doctor Codes, fire codes, or disasters.
- Utilizes proper bodily mechanics when lifting and transferring patient to and from wheelchairs.
- Develops and promotes positive effective customer service relations with patients, patient family members, visitors and staff; ensures accurate and timely transport of patients and patient-related items.
- Completes transport quickly and efficiently; immediately notifies dispatchers when assignments are initiated and completed.
- Drives quality and continuously improves departmental performance through timely response to pages from dispatcher and management staff.
- Demonstrates proper phone and two-way radio handling; ensures proper functioning of communication equipment at all times.
