Principal Architect

What you'll do:

• Define the architecture for Backblaze systems, in collaboration with talented engineers, SREs, and operations folks.
• Work with development teams to create new components, and to refactor existing ones.
• Dive deep into parts of the system, understand how they work, and figure out how to improve them.
• Consult with people throughout the company, sharing information about our architecture and technology, and understanding their viewpoints.
• Research new technologies and understand how they could be applied at Backblaze.

The right fit:

• Experience as a key contributor, designing and implementing software systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong coding skills in a variety of languages. (We code mostly in Java.)
• Experience with distributed, large-scale systems.
• Demonstrated technical leadership.
• Ability to learn new technologies and assess their impacts.
• Track record of shipping things.
