The Process Engineer position has responsibility for aligning the performance of Metso: Outotec Heat Transfer products with customer requirements to provide best-fit solutions and offerings in all phases of the product lifecycle from the onset of developing a sales opportunity , to project execution, to commissioning, to warranty support and aftermarket support. The objectives of the position includes: developing product improvements, bidding competitive solutions for successful project sale and execution, and troubleshooting and correcting under-performing installations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Select and size equipment and develop and design systems solutions to support the bidding and execution of Heat Transfer projects, working in conjunction test centers as required.
  • Prepare accurate and timely process simulation modeling including expected values and design conditions considering various process conditions.
  • Prepare commercial Performance Statements for proposals.
  • Provide technical support to sales staff and assist in developing positive customer relationships.
  • Prepare organized tactical technical sales presentations for presenting solutions to customers.
  • Attend customer meetings as necessary to develop customer solutions and provide technical and commercial support in closing sales.
  • Maintain and develop tools for modeling equipment performance.
  • Prepare propcess flow diagrams, PFD's.
  • Prepare heat and mass balance.
  • Review control philosophy and P & I diagrams.
  • Provide field start-up commissioning services and process audits.
  • Analyze existing operating plant data to create baseline modelling and potential debottlenecking and process improvements.
  • Develop and present various types and levels of training programs, for both internal and external audiences, associated with equipment sizing and operation.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties and/or other special projects as required.
Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in an chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in with OEM serving mining or other heavy equipment industries.
  • Experience in process engineering for large continous thermal processing equipment.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport.
Skills and Abilities

  • Detailed understanding of Heat Transfer equipment products.
  • Demonstrated understanding of industry best practices.
  • Engineering skills must include proven abilities in data handling and applied statistics, control theory, and logic, application of mineral processing principles, unit operations modeling, and structured problem-solving.
  • Must be able to identify and assess operational, control or design-related problems or constraints; design and evaluate alternative solutions; select and justify recommended solutions, and implement and evaluate recommendations.
  • An implementation may be in the form of flowsheet design support, process re-engineering, DCS or PLC configuration, or process optimization using available analytical, statistical and/or simulation tools.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings.
  • Excellent oral and written communications and attention to accuracy and detail is essential. Ambition and determination tempered by empathy, flexibility, and perseverance are required; particularly while working at client sites.
  • Polished customer relations and good interpersonal relations skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with a bias for action.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to lead a team under stress and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to successfully drive change initiatives to a realization.
  • Highly organized and able to multitask and prioritize various activities to ensure timely and accurate compliance with schedule and budget requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of personal computers, including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PP).
  • Regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms, and effectively communicate with others. Must be comfortable communicating in shop/plant environments.
  • Able to travel frequently, both domestic and international, plus or minus 30%.
