SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for investigating and resolving manufacturing and assembly problems, conducting tests and experiments, and supporting continuous improvement activities to ensure that products are produced in the most efficient manner and meet Company specifications.This position reports to the St. John’s Mechanical Engineer and supports Engineering and Quality functions in St. Johns and Farmington Hills, MI.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure that all components and finished goods meet manufacturer’s specifications and meet MAHLE’s strict quality standards. The incumbent is responsible for assisting to identify, communicate, and propose implementation of corrective actions to maintain product specifications.
  • Investigate component, gauging, and test equipment issues to ensure optimal results and minimal production down time.
  • Assist with requests (ECR) and support implementing changes in blueprints and specifications in order to ensure the production of products which meet MAHLE and customer specifications.
  • Conduct experimental tests on new parts to ensure their ability to hold production tolerances.
  • Assist the Process Engineer in establishing and maintaining procedures for the production team to ensure the production and assembly of products which meet MAHLE and customer specifications.
  • Assist in establishing procedures to determine when tooling and equipment should be repaired or replaced and maintains records on all tooling repair work and updates machine and tooling blueprints.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of products, gauges, and tools to ensure that they are in proper working order to produce finished units which meet or exceed product specifications.
  • Meets regularly with the Mechanical Engineer, Process Engineer, Quality Manager, and Plant Manager to discuss continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Initiates and supports continuous improvement activities to improve quality, cost, efficiency, and manufacturability with a strong focus on ergonomic improvements.
  • Assist Process Engineer with Time Studies to ensure production standards are up to date.
  • Maintain communication with other departments to ensure the timely flow of information in order to achieve production and quality goals.
  • Responsible for supporting evaluation and repair of products returned from the field (RMAs).
  • Actively pursue quality related improvements in all job-related activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree (B. A.) in an Engineering related discipline.
  • An ideal candidate would have knowledge of electronic components and functionality, ability to read electrical schematics, and capability to diagnose and repair electrical issues.
  • Must have a general knowledge of software applications and functions, the understanding to identify, diagnose, and repair (or propose repair to the Mechanical Engineer) all software related issues to ensure the optimal performance of finished products.
  • Strong analytical abilities
  • Capacity to learn and apply new tools and concepts.
  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook
  • Ability to work independently
