Overview:
The incumbent provides technical assistance to Production and Maintenance in resolving day-to-day production problems and provides technical knowledge/assistance to Engineering for development projects involving new or modified equipment/processes.
The Process Technician is a member of the production unit who provides both process and equipment troubleshooting and gathers pertinent information for Production, Engineering, Maintenance and Quality by continuously evaluating the process equipment and recommending changes to improve safety, quality and value.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance to Production in resolving day-to-day production problems involving production equipment, usually within a specified area (e.g. cold ends, hot ends, screening, etc. ) to maximize efficiency, productivity and to reduce equipment downtime.

Investigate process development problems, propose solutions, communicate and gather input from others and implement approved solutions to support continuous improvement goals and ensure best solutions are applied.

Write job orders to correct malfunctions or improve processes, both in the short and long-term range in order to take ownership of improvement opportunities.

Support training activities and provide training as needed to employees in the use of new modified equipment within specific areas of accountability, to ensure a qualified workforce.

Work with Engineering to determine new products and equipment to be tested and help to establish the parameters for evaluating new products and equipment (including assisting in the actual testing), to ensure a comprehensive assessment of new product and equipment prior to mass production.

Order spare parts and supplies, etc. as necessary, determine adequate stock levels and write store additions and reductions to maintain proper inventory of parts and supplies used in specific areas of accountability.

Specify, design or order production tooling or related items and assist in determining standards for key process variables to ensure tools, measurements and processes are in place to maintain targets for quality and productivity.

Participates in all blueprint reviews in specified areas of accountability to ensure production readiness of equipment.

Qualifications:
The Process Technician will preferably possess a 2 year degree in a relevant field. Experience in the production processes of cutting, edging, washing, screening, bending and tempering as well as in products and process capabilities is highly preferred. S/he must also possess above-average technical skills and maintain an up-to-date basic knowledge of all plant processes as each area is closely dependent upon the others. The ability to read blueprints and knowledge of SPC, geometric tolerance and how these concepts help assure that customer specifications are met, are critical success factors.
The participate must possess strong technical trouble-shooting skills and be able to work either as part of a team or independently, as the situation dictates. S/he must also have good communication skills (both verbal and written) to communicate and work effectively with employees at all levels within the plant, as well as outside vendors and contractors. A strong work ethic, attention to detail and knowledge of plant security/confidentiality policies when dealing with outside suppliers are also required.
