Are you ready to lead high-performing engineering teams that help millions of kids learn through play? As a Director, Engineering, you'll build and lead teams that create quality experiences to deliver on Prodigy's strategic goals. You'll shape our people, delivery processes, and technology to bring the most value to our users and business while maintaining a culture of innovation and excellence. For this role, you’ll focus on the experiences that help our teachers and parents.

Your Impact

  • Maintain a product engineering culture that regularly delivers high-value user experiences while driving continuous improvement and fostering psychological safety.

  • Lead multiple engineering teams through effective delivery processes that ensure timely, high-quality product delivery.

  • Coach and mentor engineering managers to help them grow, lead effective teams, and navigate challenges.

  • Champion user-centered development where technical decisions are guided by learning impact.

  • Collaborate with Product and Design to balance short and long-term roadmaps, ensuring sustainable delivery.

  • Proactively use DevOps and data-driven approaches to identify bottlenecks, improve reliability, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Maintain a high technical bar across the organization while keeping systems as simple as possible.

  • Manage staffing, organizational structure, and budget planning aligned with business goals.

About You

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in engineering leadership positions.

  • Strong technical background with ability to evaluate designs, manage complexity, and maintain engineering excellence.

  • Proactive problem-solver who can identify opportunities for improvement in process and technology.

  • Proven success in hiring, developing, and retaining top engineering talent.

  • Experience with Agile and DevOps practices, with a track record of improving key engineering metrics.

  • Collaborative leader who works effectively with cross-functional partners.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to advocate for engineering initiatives at all levels.

  • Experience balancing feature development with technical debt management.

  • Motivated to stay current with emerging technologies and possess an inherent curiosity for continuous learning and improvement.

  • Experience in education technology or gaming is a plus, but not required.

Our Tech Stack

  • We run on AWS with a modern cloud-native architecture using Kubernetes for container orchestration.

  • Our backend services are primarily TypeScript and Python. 

  • Frontend development is React to a GraphQL API.

  • Monitoring and observability are via Datadog and Sentry.

  • We use Databricks, Airflow, and DBT for data engineering.
