Nifty Gateway is the premiere, all-in-one platform that makes it easy to buy, sell, and store digital art and collectibles, otherwise known as Nifties (or NFTs). Nifty Gateway was founded by Duncan and Griffin Cock Foster in 2018, and acquired by Gemini in 2019, with the belief that crypto networks and the blockchain have the power to fundamentally change the art world by creating greater choice, independence, and opportunity for artists, creators, and collectors.

The Department: Legal

The Legal department at Gemini is making history every day, as we creatively apply the legacy of law to the future of digital assets. On this team, you will tackle complex and unprecedented applications of the current legal system to the revolutionary industry of non-fungible tokens and blockchain technology. At Gemini, Legal plays a critical role in guiding innovation and driving value for the business, while upholding our core tenets of security, compliance, and trust for our customers. The Role: Product Counsel, Nifty Gateway

As Product Counsel, Nifty Gateway at Gemini, you are the ultimate generalist and will serve as the primary contact across all aspects of the Legal function for Nifty Gateway. You will be responsible for commercial contracts across the business and will also advise Nifty Gateway leadership on general legal and compliance issues facing a disruptive emerging technology. Leveraging both breadth and depth of prior experience as in-house counsel, you will help Nifty Gateway build out a nimble and scalable program during a period of high growth. You will partner with Legal colleagues, as well as cross-functionally with the Business Development, Marketing, People, Product, Security, and Technology teams, both in the United States and around the world.

Responsibilities:

• Identify and evaluate business, regulatory, and legal risks and partner with business teams to find creative solutions to mitigate those risks.
• Draft and negotiate a wide variety of agreements, including strategic partnerships. 
• Establish organization-wide, scalable processes for contracting, including the creation of template agreements. 
• Manage disputes involving Nifty Gateway. 
• Advise Nifty Gateway on intellectual property strategy and related licensing terms.
• Manage projects effectively and collaboratively.
• Build positive and influential relationships with Nifty Gateway leadership and cross-functional teams, evangelizing the Legal team’s expertise and services across the company.
• Collaborate with and support the Chief Legal Officer and the rest of the Legal team to evaluate and communicate legal risks to internal stakeholders and external parties.

Minimum Qualifications:

• JD degree
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant legal experience, must include significant time with a technology company 
• Experience collaborating with a product manager / department on all legal topics pertaining to that product
• Proven ability to proactively, efficiently, and accurately assess legal business risks in a fast-paced environment
• Fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of and interest in disruptive technology; prior experience working in high-growth tech companies a plus
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements 
• Familiarity with creative, risk-principled lawyering in financial technology or other regulated industries
• Track record of innovative problem-solving, excellent written and oral communication skills, and creation of strong and trusted cross-functional relationships
