Production Press Operator: 3rd Shift Press Operator

What is the job like? Well, our press operators are the associates who actually make our products - we manufacture rubber seals for many uses, mostly for the automotive industry but we also make seals for the food & beverage industry, along with some medical devices as well. Ask about what we make in your interview and we'd be glad to tell you - you likely use many of our products on a daily basis!

Operators have their own 10x10 work areas called "cells." Each cell has a large press that heats up to melt rubber and press or mold it into small parts by pushing it into what we call a loading board (a big metal tray with cavities or holes in it).

On the left side of the cell area is a prep area where you load your metal board. Next you slide the board into the press which is located in front of you and set it to run what we call a heat cycle. This short cycle heats up the rubber and pushes it into the cavities to create the seals.

The last part of the process is really important as we're all responsible for the quality of our products and that starts with you. Once the loading board comes out of the press the right side of your cell has an area with a giant magnifying glass so you can check to make sure your work looks good. You'll have small tools just incase you might need to do any trimming or grinding so the product is ready for our customers.

Like most manufacturing jobs there is a little bit of paperwork involved & we strive to have high productivity but not at the cost of safety or quality. Productivity will come as you get the hang of the job. You'll also get a chance to learn how to trouble shoot and work with your team leader to help solve defect issues too.

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: We'll train on the skills you'll need to perform the job & there are no qualifications needed. This position does require you to be on your feet for your entire shift but every work area has a cushy anti-fatigue mat for you to stand on & we don't require steel toed shoes so you can wear your own comfortable shoes. You'll need to be able to lift up to 35 lbs. but not repeatedly, usually several times a day and of course there will be some routine bending and stretching.
