POSITION SUMMARY: The position of Engineer provides engineering and technical direction on assigned projects in accordance with the project scope, to the Project Manager and all supporting internal departments, customers, suppliers, and subcontracted design agents. Project Engineers play a key role in supporting the Project Manager though all project phases from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring & controlling, and closure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job’s overall responsibilities:

  • Responsible for producing and reviewing documentation for customers including: RFI, Submittals, Engineering Change Requests, Nonconformance Documentation (NCR)
  • Responsible for creating and reviewing process control documents including but not limited to: travelers, activity orders, work packages, production procedures, and engineering drawings
  • Responsible for logistics support for fabrication including: purchase orders, receiving instructions, material inventory and BOM
  • Supports shop issue resolutions
  • Supports the Project Manager (PM) ensuring contract requirements of fabricated work are met by monitoring performance and collaborating in making course corrections where necessary to meet both corporate and project schedule, cost, quality, safety goals
  • Prepare and maintain an overall engineering project plan.
  • Responsible for leading cross functional teams in fabrication build planning.
  • Understand and interpret applicable codes and standards, contract and regulatory compliance
  • Provide direction and support for drawing detailing
  • Preform design and structural analysis for components and tooling

JOB SCOPE: Operates within general parameters, but must use sound judgment and independent decision making when carrying out job responsibilities. Has the ability to influence and recommend modifying existing protocols. Failure to meet the expectations of the customer could result in significant loss of future business.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Some project team member oversight of internal or external resources may be required but no direct reports.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: The PE coordinates his/her efforts with managers and supervisors at all levels of a specific project. The position represents the Company through formal and informal interactions with the customer. Additionally, the individual contacts regulatory body officials and industry peers.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Skilled in client, customer, or official communication pertaining and able to represent Vigor in meetings.
  • Ability to organize and manage workloads of large or multiple programs.
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively manage priorities.
  • Ability to proactively interface with production personnel as primary customer due to constant interaction with shop production staff to ensure contract requirements are met.
  • PC skills required, including use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Skilled in use of design software: AutoCAD, SolidWorks or any other parametric modeling required.
  • Skilled in producing and reviewing engineering drawings.
  • Skilled in engineering structural analysis.
  • Ability to participate in continuous improvement efforts that further company values.
  • Skilled and/or knowledgeable in welding and associated standards preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in AS9100 and/or NQA-1 standards.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Engineering Degree required, preferably with focus in industrial or mechanical disciplines AND typically a minimum of 5 years’ experience in steel fabrication. Experience in a fabrication environment, preferably job-shop or general contract companies, individuals with a strong fabrication background/builder-mentality and a strong technical skills/aptitude.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Fundamental of Engineering (FE or EIT) preferred but not required, Certified Welder (CW) preferred but not required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting. The person may be required to be in production areas at times. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. There may be local travel up to 10% of the time and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 5% of the time with notice. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Base pay for positions shall be set slightly below market.
  • Base pay provided to individuals shall be determined in consideration of market data, internal equity, and overall job performance.
  • Annual cash compensation, which includes base pay and incentive compensation bonus, shall be target to be above market when the Company’s overall financial performance has been positive.
