Property Claim Representative

Role Overview: Investigates, evaluates, negotiates, and resolves first-party medium to complex level claims with occasional supervision. Complies with company procedures and the State Fair Claims Practices Act.


A Day in the life of a Property Claims Representative:


  • Receives information regarding loss details, investigates facts, researches policies and endorsements to assess coverage, and determines approval or denial of payment.
  • Manages all external communications with customers associated with the claim; serves as the main contact with agents and insureds regarding the claim status, decisions, payments, and other related questions. Records and updates claim notes to reflect the status of the claim; documents the result of external information gathering.
  • Plans and manages the claim investigation, including interviewing all parties involved, collecting and evaluating documentation, securing evidence to analyze coverage, and determining the extent of damages and compensation.
  • Issues loss and expense payments within stated authority and complies with check security procedures. Recommends appropriate reserves based upon the facts of the loss.
  • Keeps apprised of current trends in the industry and related changes in the law.
  • Works in a team environment to promote and support unit, department, and organizational goals; communicates effectively, supports co-workers, and works with colleagues effectively and professionally. Assists other claims associates who are absent by helping with their claims and answering questions that may arise.


Occasionally you will also
:

1. Attends quarterly and Property Unit meetings.

2. May work in a hybrid fashion, working from home and/or at the home office in Bucyrus, Ohio. Periodic attendance in the home Office for training and team meetings is required.

3. Will periodically handle a large volume of claims during storm events.


You're a great fit for this position if you


  • Have a college degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Two years of previous claims experience.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task; experience in a production environment where time management, workload prioritization, case management, record keeping, documentation, accountability, and follow-up are key priorities.
  • Have strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Have strong investigation, reasoning, and listening skills.
  • Have a high level of organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with other associates, agents, insureds, various federal or state agencies, and numerous other outside contacts and customers.
  • Experience using claims programs and technology such as Hover, Ladder Now, Eagle View, and Xactimate to write estimates.
  • Possesses basic construction knowledge.
  • Are actively licensed or working to become licensed in New England States.
