Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree (4 year) in Science or equivalent. Degree in chemistry preferred

Experience/Background: Prior lab work & Knowledge of the law, the physical sciences (biology, chemistry, etc.) or applied mathematics.

Willingness to take TTB Chemist certification exam and sign off on export testing paperwork, must meet TTB eligibility
Position Summary
This position supports the culture that drives behavior towards excellence. You will ensure the highest standards of quality and food safety. Key responsibilities will be to provide quick and efficient analytical and technical expertise to support production and ensure a consumer centric focus. Cross functional collaboration internal and external is integral to this role. Other responsibilities will include leveraging data collection and trends, standardization and streamline processes to drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Conformance to Product Specifications
-
Perform routine analytical tests on bottled and RTD (ready to drink) alcohol products through all stages of the process. Analysis of product including proof, weight per gallon, color, brix, pH, methanol, turbidity, obscurations, total solids, methanol, analytes, and organoleptic evaluation

Record and maintain accurate records of test results.

Maintain production samples and reference composite samples.
Conformance of Bulk Ingredients
-
Analysis on pre-shipments, received flavors, bulk ingredients and finished blends.

Verify incoming bulk meets current specification by performing color, brix, pH, Benedict's, and organoleptic evaluation.

Record and maintain accurate results.

Maintain bulk and flavor reference samples.
-
Report nonconformance to appropriate personnel.
Sensory Program Administration & Organoleptic Analysis
-
Participate in and lead sensory analysis of bottled and RTD alcohol products. Set-up and take down daily panels.
-
Maintain current sensory references, including requesting new samples and placing them on panel for approval, rotating old samples, and appropriate labeling.

Maintain sensory records.
-
Routine oversight (monthly awards, training where necessary, evaluation/training/coaching of new/existing panelists).
-
Support for any special projects related to Sensory i.e. Plant-Wide triangles.
-
Support wash evaluation and development plant-wide, including analyzing headspace on NGS washes, providing instructions for wash steps to bottling, providing input to scheduling dept. Regarding product order related to washes, and suggesting improvements for potential trials to reduce wash time
Quality Management Systems and EH&S
-
Updating and documenting new procedures and instruction in regard to laboratory testing and equipment calibration.

Responsible for ensuring that Process Quality Assurance is maintaining ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 22000/FSSC2200, GMP and HACCP records. Utilize E1 as needed to input WO’s in order to drive repairs aimed towards improving performance.

Support the Pernod Ricard Safety Culture initiative and report any safety risk or concerns to department management.

Updating and documenting new procedures and instruction in regard to laboratory testing and equipment calibration.

Employees are required to report all accidents, incidents, and near-misses immediately. These would include all non-disabling and disabling injuries and occupational illnesses, fatalities, fires, and explosions, property damage, chemical spills, and any incident having the potential for property damage or personal injury. Usage of SIRC cards to drive safety improvements not related to incidents.

Achieve the corporate objective on lost time accident.
Wastewater and Daily Water Analysis

Analyze wastewater samples.

Trend and report data so maintenance may take preventative action, where necessary.

Maintain records associated with testing.

Perform prescribed analysis daily on RO tanks.

Record and maintain accurate records.
-
Report any nonconformance to the engineering department/management.
Export Analysis/Documentation
-
Perform analysis for export testing as prescribed by TTB chemists. Track outgoing shipments and create Certificates of analysis, Origin, Age, and Typicality, to be review by Chemists.
Continuous Improvements
-
Participate in Continuous improvement teams when needed.

Continuous improvement to lab procedures.

Continuously look for areas to improve (non-value-added tasks).
Special Projects/Miscellaneous
-
Experiments targeting Quality Assurance System improvements aimed towards increasing department efficiency and/or collaboration with other departments/customers.

Maintaining inventory of lab items and ordering. Searching for a choosing the best prices, when possible and it does not affect quality.

Cross-training with Packaging lab to be able to support the Packaging side as one Quality Team
Microbiological Analysis
-
Perform routine microbiological testing, recording, and reporting. Analysis to be conducted as required on RTDs, Finished Product, ingredients and water.

Maintain records associated with micro testing.

Release Finished products in E1 based on test results

The salary range for this role, based in Fort Smith is $50,200 to $75,400, range will vary if outside of this location. Base salaries are determined during our interview process, by assessing a candidate’s experience, skills against internal peers and against the scope and responsibilities of the position.
