Position Summary
Ensure the quality processes in the Nestle Development Center (NDC) Pilot Plant & Laboratory are carried out according to the Nestle requirements for R&D; Support quality by design process for Pilot Plant trials and provide expertise including product specific assistance to Nestle Nutrition. Ensure product compliance to standards during development of Pilot Plant trials. Coordinate Nestle Management System & Good Laboratory Practice compliance programs, including regulatory and Nestle requirements for the Pilot Plant and site. Provide training for NDC personnel on food safety, GMP, and GLP. Conduct laboratory analysis to support research projects, material qualification, or technical assistance requests.

Pilot Plant Quality Processes:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Nestle quality programs in the Pilot Plant. Lead the Food Safety Team and create Operational HACCPs for the different technologies used in the Pilot Plant.
  • Manage the prerequisite programs, CCP's and OPRP's for products manufactured in the Pilot Plant.
  • Review production records and manage release of test material produced in the Pilot Plant.
  • Ensure that project managers and product developers are trained as needed in NesTMS (trial management system) and other quality requirements.
  • Coordinate the Nestle Management System (NMS) for the site and manage full implementation of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) for Pilot Plant & Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) for the site laboratory.
  • Represent the Pilot Plant in internal and external audits of the NMS & GLP processes. Participate in audits, gap assessments and technical assistance as requested. Provide guidance to NDC.
  • Ensure that all development trials reaching the pilot plant include appropriate Quality and Compliance aspects
  • Support completion of Quality deliverables for Pilot Plant projects according to local and Nestle requirements. Support research analysis as needed to help guide ingredient selection, investigation, or recipe optimization.
  • Responsible to follow up and uphold all Food Safety, Food Quality, Occupational Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures as pertains to role.
  • Flexibility to travel as necessary

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science (preferred microbiology, chemistry, or food science) with 5 years of applicable experience. Masters in food science/technology is preferred.
  • Quality and Food Safety experience within food manufacturing
  • Proven track record in delivering results by working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with implementation for external standards, including ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 required. Specific NMS experience is preferred.
Knowledge of systems:
  • SAP
  • Better Process Control School (course); Lead auditor training; PCQI certified
  • Knowledge of Hygienic Design
  • Principles of environmental pathogen monitoring
  • ISO 14000, OSHA 18001/45000
  • Basic Thermal Process knowledge; General laboratory knowledge and technique
  • FDA & USDA regulations
