Pay Range: $15.00-18.75/hour and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Pay Grade: 50.50

Position Summary: The receptionist provides support for the Cosmetology program at Johnson County Community College and is responsible for greeting clients, answering calls, scheduling clients, directing calls to appropriate associate, conducting retail sales, taking in credit cards and cash, balancing the drawer at the end of the shift.
Provides general office support with some clerical duties and related tasks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of office programs, including Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills; ability to multi-task; flexibility
  • Commitment to accuracy; attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient math skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work fluently with other types of software, including scheduling software
  • Ability to work under pressure and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Software scheduling experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Cosmetology industry
  • Retail or salon industry experience
  • Office/clerical experience
  • Closely-related customer service experience

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Greet and check in and out clients for salon services and retail sales a. Clients are greeted upon arrival in a courteous manner b. Payments are received and accurately processed c. Cash drawer is balanced at the end of each shift and payments are correctly recorded.
  • Schedule client services a. Correspondence in a timely manner to satisfy client and program needs b. Calls are answered, and messages returned promptly to ensure customer satisfaction c. Services are scheduled to provide students proper time to complete and varied practical experience.
  • Work as a customer service liaison a. Appropriately direct individual needs to the appropriate personnel and follow up for quality assurance b. Client complaints are handled in a timely and appropriate manner as outlined in Standard Operating Practice Document c. Maintain confidential client information d. Communicate confidential client information with faculty and staff impartially.
  • Assist in training of students as receptionist a. Provide instruction in the area of scheduling clients and professional phone etiquette b. Provide a professional manner both in appearance and while conducting the tasks assigned c. Support faculty by providing students accurate and necessary information to complete tasks.
  • Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
