Reconciliation Specialist

The Opportunity:
This role is responsible for ensuring Remittance and related financial reconciliations are completed in a timely and accurate manner. Additionally, the specialist will work cross functionally with our customer facing teams to ensure payments are being appropriately applied to our customers’ accounts. The specialist will also support our team with ad-hoc day-to-day tasks and projects on an as needed basis to better the overall Remittance and financial reconciliation functions.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly cash reconciliations.
- Independently review, investigate, resolve, and document variances between customer account cash application / posting and bank deposits.
- Review and respond to in a timely manner to all service, contact and email requests received from various groups as it pertains Cash and customer account reconciliations.
- Complete all ad-hoc tasks assigned by Supervisor. These may include, but are not limited to, customer account reconciliation investigations, potential system and reporting enhancements, impact analysis as operational issues arise which impact customer accounts and financial reconciliations, customer payment research, Audit requests, and producing reporting required to execute and monitor the overall Remittance and financial reconciliation processes.
- Work with electricity and natural gas utilities as well as other market participants to investigate and resolve missing payment files. This includes corresponding directly with utilities, business partners and other market participants as needed per process protocol.
- Work closely with Operations Supervisors to meet deadlines and key performance targets, undertake strategic initiatives to better the overall Remittance and financial reconciliation functions and drive value as a part of our core operating team. .
- Work with the appropriate teams to troubleshoot and resolve system issues that impact the reconciliation processes required to be executed.
- Document tasks as needed to ensure continuity of business and ensure appropriate controls are in place to address operational gaps.
Requirements:
- Must have intermediate excel skill level. Prior experience working in a position involving bank reconciliation is preferred
- The ideal candidate would possess the ability to quickly learn new systems and processes, be a self-starter with good organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Must be a team player and be willing to work flexible hours, as needed
- Must be detail oriented with a strong ability to identify a pattern in a problem, conduct research, coordinate with the appropriate teams to resolve operational issues
- A conceptual understanding of the Retail Electricity Provider business is a plus
- Experience in any one of the following areas is a plus – Remittance, Accounting, Financial Planning and Analysis, Electronic Data Interchange Transaction processing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Treasury, and / or Billing
Experience and Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent minimum
- Knowledge of 3rd party billing system knowledge is strongly preferred (specifically I-Sigma)
