Campus Recreation is one of 9 units with in the Division of Student Affairs. Campus Recreation provides healthy, lifestyle orientated programs and services to the Indiana University Purdue University – Indianapolis students and employees via 5 program areas: Fitness, Intramural Sports, Group Fitness, Informal Recreation and Club Sports.

Job Summary


Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Campus Recreation Director, manages a comprehensive fitness program that includes Group Exercise, Instructional Programs, Small Group Training and day-to-day operations of fitness-related areas.
  • Provides oversight of fitness center in the campus center.
  • Provides timely and accurate incident, accident, risk management, financial and maintenance reporting.
  • Coordinates, creates and assesses educational experiences for student staff including fitness certifications (ACE, AFAA, etc.) and student development/professional development opportunities.
  • Develops and executes marketing strategies to maximize programming attendance.
  • Recruits, interviews, trains, and supervises program and fitness area student personnel.
  • Recommends annual equipment, facility, maintenance, policy and budgetary needs.
  • Provides timely and accurate reporting of participant usage data in program area.
  • Assists with the assessment and evaluation of learning outcomes for the student employees.
  • Recommends operational and programmatic changes based on on-going need assessment.

General Responsibilities

  • Evaluates recreation areas, equipment, facilities, and services to determine if they are producing desired results.
  • Designs, implements, evaluates, and expands recreational programming.
  • Supervises and coordinates the work activities of employees, such as training and assigning work duties.
  • Ensures compliance by adhering to the established risk management plan, monitoring and verifying certifications and training, and conducting inspections of facilities and equipment.

Qualifications


EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

  • Related experience with structured recreational programming

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required

  • CPR/AED 180 days from date of hire
  • Standard First Aid within 180 days from date of hire
  • Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions 180 days from date of hire
  • May require related recreational certifications

  • Proficient communication skills

  • Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment

Working Conditions / Demands


This position requires both sedentary work and long durations of movement about the workspace. It requires the ability to move and transport objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation.

Occasional nights and weekends may be required.
