The System Administrator I is responsible for the design, implementation, support, and security of the server and applications that form the core of our technology infrastructure. The System Administrator I will work collaboratively with other administrators, engineers, developers, and leadership to provide support for high demand, mission critical complex business systems. Typical responsibilities include the design, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance monitoring, and detailed documentation of systems.  The role participates on project teams where technology services are required and uses project management practices to support their initiatives. The System Administrator I will also provide support for incidents or outages and conduct root cause analysis, as well as document and implement the necessary solutions.


System Administration:
  • Manage high-availability physical and virtual server systems.
  • Manage Veeam backup and recovery systems.
  • Maintain Orion SolarWinds monitoring solutions and respond to incidents.
  • Optimize performance and security using industry standard tools and best practices.
  • Maintain and administer the physical and virtual server and storage technology infrastructure of The Redwood Group.
  • Manage Ivanti solution to make sure systems and applications are secure from any flaws.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of VMWare, Microsoft, and Storage Area Networks in the diagnosing of technology problems.


Support:
  • Develop operational processes and guides for existing systems that provide other teams with the ability to manage and support day-to-day operations with a focus on risk mitigation.
  • Automate systems engineering tasks using scripting/programming languages such as PowerShell.
  • Ensure full operability of server, storage, hardware, software, and services for the Credit Union.
  • Document and resolve both end user and infrastructure related problems.
  • Prioritize problem resolution and daily schedule as work dictates.
  • Recommend and perform hardware and software upgrades to accommodate growth, upkeep, and preventative maintenance of The Redwood Group.
  • Formulate and ensure adherence to quality assurance standards internal to the department and external to end-users.
  • Develop and maintain guides, Vizio diagrams, procedures, and business continuity information for system administration.
  • Arrange for full availability via phone or e-mail for communication during scheduled hours.
  • Diagnose and repair/report network services issues to management.
  • Develop and employ working relations with third party vendors to assist in maintaining equipment and resolving related problems.
  • Uphold established department service standards.


Security:
  • Practice industry security standards regarding servers, VMWare, Microsoft, Database, and network hardware initial hardening.  Maintain effective monitoring and reporting of logs and service alerts.
  • Maintain availability, Patching and security controls of Microsoft and VMware based server platforms.
  • Solve outstanding security issues through research and management suggested direction.


IT Development:
  • Maintain hardware and software asset inventory and related documentation.
  • Research new technologies, vendors, and techniques; draft recommendations and technology plans with requirements to meet business needs. 


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Industry standard certifications or demonstrated knowledge in assigned technologies preferred including:
  • Microsoft directory services, such as Active Directory, DNS, and NTP
  • Strong working knowledge of security best practices.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and/or direction.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools
  • Ability to interact and communicate with outside vendors and internal clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to travel 5% of the time.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required to support system deployment, maintenance and management during non-business and reduced member impacting hours
  • Ability to work on-call, as needed.


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to drive.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist, and turn.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard, calculator, and mouse.
  • Work environment is indoors; majority of the time is spent sitting at a desk.


The ideal candidate has a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science or closely related field and (4) years’ experience maintaining and administering network and computer servers and systems.


Licenses and Certifications: Ability to maintain valid California driver’s license. Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification preferred.


Compensation: Base starting range: $40 to $53 per hour commensurate with experience.

Our base salary starting range is based on scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, and internal peer equity.
