Research Assistant I - Lymphoma-Myeloma - Research

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to provide technical assistance to support the mission of the Lymphoma Tissue Bank, including the clinical trials and research projects coordinated through the tissue bank. Personnel will be trained to use electronic medical records (EMR), seek and document informed consent from patients for clinical trials and research collections, collect and document research samples from around the MD Anderson clinical operations environment, and to process and bank research tissue samples. An applicant should be excited to interact 1-on-1 with patients and their caregivers, and to bring an enthusiastic, curious, and careful mindset to work alongside the rest of the Lymphoma Tissue Bank team.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Patient Interaction & Consent
Present eligible patients with the opportunity to join research studies, accurately describing the purpose and risks associated with each study to provide and document informed consent.
Maintains documentation of patient encounters and keeps up to date records on patient consent and preferences for departmental databases.
Clinical Research Function
Works with other members of the Lymphoma Tissue Bank team to track sample collections and maintain records for clinical trials and research projects to ensure accurate and timely delivery of research samples to relevant parties.
Review patient visit and procedure area schedules to proactively identify and schedule patients and procedures relevant to ongoing clinical trial or research projects that utilize the Lymphoma Tissue Bank.
Laboratory Function
Performs basic tissue processing procedures for all tissue types collected in the Lymphoma Tissue Bank according to standard operating procedure. Sample types include blood, bone marrow, solid tissue, cerebrospinal fluid, and others as needed.
Maintains clean and neat work area in laboratory to ensure an efficient and safe work environment.

Education Required - Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.
