Job Description Summary:
Responsible for conducting basic research and conducting animal studies to help lab members with research projects. The primary job responsibilities include mouse breeding, maintenance, genotyping and conducting animal models of colon and pancreatic cancer.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's or graduate degree in biology or medicine or other science/medicine-related area.
Some research experience with animal breeding, maintenance, animal models of cancer, genotyping, basic understanding of cell and molecular biology preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills as evidenced in application materials and interview process.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous lab experience working with KPC mouse model, cancer xenograft models, AOM-DSS colon cancer model, breeding of genetically engineered mice, and basic molecular biological techniques viz. RTPCR, western blot.
Competence in writing, reporting, communicating, interpersonal relationships, basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Job Duties Outlined:
Conduct basic and animal research in cancer biology to help postdocs and students (mice breeding and maintenance, DNA/RNA extraction, genotyping, PCR, plasmid preparation, transfection of nucleic acids, basic tissue culture work, protein extraction, western blotting).
Attend all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and Department, attend departmental seminars and attend regular lab meetings. Provide laboratory training for new students and fellows in the lab.
Will be expected to participate in various research projects under the guidance of the faculty supervisor, record and interpret the results of their experiments in a laboratory notebook.
Interact on a regular basis with faculty and other members of the laboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results. Develop and maintain lab guidelines for specific studies as directed by lab supervisor.
Order supplies and negotiate prices on lab consumables. Follow established quality control and quality assurance policies and procedures, including appropriate documentation.
Serve as lab safety person as needed. Dispose of biohazardous materials, chemical waste, sharps and other potentially hazardous materials according to policy, and strictly adheres to safety and biosafety control procedures.
Calibrate, maintain and operate equipment keeping appropriate documentation. Report malfunctions to supervisor. Maintain adequate inventory of lab kits and reagents.
Perform other duties as assigned.
