Job Summary
  • Develop research proposals for federal agencies related to the study of collaborative design and computational design support.
  • Support ongoing funded projects that include studying perspectives and roles of artificial intelligence in manufacturing, collaborative creativity in engineering design teams, design method acceptance level measurement, level of automation perceptions in industry, and early stage representation and reasoning.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in group design and research projects.
  • Help establish a research lab culture at the first Engineering Design lab at the University of Texas at Dallas.
  • Collaborate on building a design research network in Texas with partners at other research institutions.
  • Work closely with faculty in developing personal mentoring and professional development plans.
Minimum Education and Experience

Ph.D in a related field.

Preferred Education and Experience
Candidates applying for the position should possess the following:
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering (or related)
  • Experience conducting design research (user studies, protocol studies, case studies)
  • Programming Experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct experiments by using advanced equipment and applying complex techniques, methods and procedures; plan and perform quantitative and qualitative research procedures; plan and execute the details of experiments according to research protocol; other duties as assigned.
