Summary:

To meet the expanding needs of our drug development programs, Seagen is seeking a detail-orientated, collaborative, organized, and flexible Research Associate III to support our efforts to develop oncology drugs. The successful candidate will have a strong scientific background, thrive in a fast-paced dynamic environment, and possess the ability to work with a cross-functional team to investigate novel therapeutic targets in the areas of cancer biology and immunotherapy.

The RAIII will function with a high degree of independence in daily work, and design and interpret complex experiments with guidance. They will have a general understanding of project scope. They will provide experimental expertise, support to others on joint projects, provide data and partial (co-) authorship on group reports. They may mentor other employees or interns and may provide some direction to others. Candidate must possess a commitment to excellence and quality for patients.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • This role consists of two primary responsibilities: 1) aid in the establishment of SOPs and workflows for Cell Line Engineering functional area and 2) assess drug mechanisms of action using Cell Line Engineering
  • Manipulate primary cells and cancer cell lines, including standard cell culture, viral transduction and non-viral transfection, and broad applications of genetic engineering strategies (e.g., CRISPR, RNAi) with some initial guidance. The expectation is that the individual will become the subject matter expert (SME) and leverage scientific literature
  • In vitro and in vivo characterization of engineered cells/cell lines by execution of complex cellular and molecular assays with some guidance
  • Collaborate with other groups in Research to use engineered cells/cell lines to answer critical questions facilitating the advancement of cancer therapeutics at Seagen
  • Present experimental results and scientific rationale to colleagues

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 4+ years' relevant experience or M.S. degree with 2+ years' relevant experience; or equivalent
  • Degree must be in relevant field such as Cellular or Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Immunology, or related field
  • Some experience with cell line manipulation including lentiviral transduction and/or use of CRISPR-based gene editing technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in Cancer Biology and/or Immunology is preferred
  • Ability to design, perform and interpret complex experiments with guidance
  • Experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques such as flow cytometry, Western blotting, transfection
  • Strong capacity to collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to provide experimental expertise and support on joint projects
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills; can explain details of the work and how it fits into the bigger picture

The hiring pay range for this position is $83,000 to $108,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
