This position will be aligned with the Equipment Breakdown track.
Location: This position will provide service within the Ohio/Kentucky territory. Selected candidate must reside within the Ohio/Kentucky territory.
Start Date: September 2023
Risk Control Associates perform risk assessment and mitigation across numerous lines of business and industry segments. Among other things, they help CNA insurance companies and its policyholders identify exposures and implement effective controls that can help prevent bodily injury and property loss.
CNA recognizes that military service members and veterans have expertise that can transfer well to Risk Control. CNA’s Risk Control Associate Program is designed to leverage service accomplishments and build on existing military foundation. Program Associates will work with veteran and civilian mentors who will provide guidance and training to assist veterans as they transition to a career in the insurance industry. CNA values diversity of thought, collaboration, individual leadership initiative and a willingness to learn.
The Program is scheduled to begin the end of September 2023. There are two openings and each one will encompass one of the following tracks:
- Equipment Breakdown: Performs equipment risk assessments and jurisdictional inspections of boilers and pressure vessels.
- Property and Casualty: Performs risk assessments (field-based or virtual center-based) in areas including but not limited to Property, Workers’ Compensation, Construction and Marine.
Under general supervision, learns the principles of the risk control process and gains the skills to perform risk assessments through instruction and participating in on-the-job training for a specified period of time. Develops accelerated ownership of the risk control process.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

Participates in and observes risk assessments for both property / casualty & equipment breakdown for all hazard levels, both onsite and virtually

Performs risk assessments - in person and/or virtually for low to moderate risks. Includes recommending solutions to customers to minimize risk.

Grows technical skillset of how to avoid, minimize and manage risk exposures.

Acquires skills at an accelerated pace to identify risk exposures, controls, emerging trends, and analyze losses.

Learns skills to research and gather additional information about an account utilizing CNA systems, insurance applications and various industry-related internet sites.

Develops an accelerated working knowledge of basic insurance principles, risk control techniques, practices and procedures.

Creates customer correspondence to confirm virtual / onsite risk assessments, and corresponding business solutions to minimize identified risk exposures.

Collaborates with internal underwriting and claims partners to gain a better understanding of the underwriting and claims processes and how risk control affects those processes.

Aids in and develops reports for use internally and externally utilizing risk control and other CNA systems.

Interfaces with external agency/broker partners to build rapport and gain better understanding of their relationship with CNA as part of the independent agency insurance process.

Performs all responsibilities consistently, efficiently, timely, and accurately.

If required for specific role, develop a working knowledge in jurisdictional code compliance relative to the inspection of boilers & pressure vessels.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

If required for specific role, 4 years of pressure equipment industry experience or completion of an accredited military or merchant marine training program in the area of marine or stationary boilers, pressure vessels or nuclear reactors.
Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with work toward professional designations.

Minimum of one to two years relevant experience.
