Position Description

In collaboration with the Regional Directors of Operations for California, the national Manager of Compliance,the food service vendors, the Waste Control and Compliance Manager will ensure our meal programs across the Bay Area are compliant with all Child Nutrition Program (CNP)  guidelines and that our meal programs continue to be financially sustainable through monitoring food waste. This position will directly report to the Senior Director of Operations and Extended Learning. This is done through reviewing and approving meal orders, inspecting NSLP paperwork weekly, and monitoring consumption. This role also partners with school leaders to learn about the meal experience at the school and to support the resolution of any health inspection findings. This position will directly support and coach our Lead Servers at each of our 13 campuses: training them, coaching them on paperwork and processes, and collaborating with our meal vendors to resolve any issues with schools. Additionally, this role will be responsible for partnering with Rocketship National team to ensure timely submission and compliance of food service processes during state-led administrative review. 


The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:


Direct Program Support and Coaching
  • Provide professional development and ongoing training for all Lead Servers
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support for all school-based Lead Servers in the region 
  • Provide feedback on food program processes to increase efficiency and compliance
  • Train and support the onboarding of all new Lead Servers in the technical aspects of their position. 


Compliance
  • Review each school’s meal order before placing with our meal vendors
  • Monitor waste and adjust meal orders based on findings to keep waste under the regional goal for waste percentage. 
  • Audit Child Nutrition Program Paperwork on a bi-weekly basis
  • Audit consumption reports weekly
  • Review food services invoices to align with goods provided and allowable expenses
  • Partner with school leaders to ensure health inspection findings are resolved in a timely manner. 
  • Partner with Rocketship National Staff to ensure timely submission and compliance food service processes during a state-led administrative review
  • Partner with the Associate Director of Extending Learning to expand meal program access in the after school program, as needed.


Ideal Candidate
  • The ideal candidate for the Waste Control & Compliance Manager position at Rocketship Public Schools is someone who has a track record of achieving meal program excellence at the school level or higher. We will also consider candidates whose experience is primarily based in a single school (leading meal program), though the role does require the perspective learned through managing or supporting multiple schools, and managing through multiple levels of staff.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years professional experience managing the NSLP program at a site, preferably in a high-performing charter management organization 
  • Ability to travel to all 13 Bay Area school sites across the region. 
  • A passion for Rocketship’s mission to eliminate the achievement gap and a belief that all students can achieve academic success 
  • Extremely high standard of excellence for school meal programs 
  • Strong  professional development design and delivery skills 
  • Experience in planning and leading complex initiatives or projects
  • Creativity in designing new tools, resources and guidelines for school-based staff 
  • Ability to build trust, relationships, and credibility quickly with people in various roles at all levels of  organizations, and especially at school sites 
  • Ability to independently and effectively manage time in an environment with multiple workstreams and competing priorities, maintaining a high degree of personal responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented, organized, and resourceful 
  • Ability to differentiate content/experiences to address school-specific context and needs effectively 
  • Willingness to learn and open to feedback
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and for a rapidly changing environment


$80,000 - $92,000 a year

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.


Compensation:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus excellent health and wellness benefits, 403b retirement plan, flexible spending account (FSA), and generous paid time off.
