Russell Square (RS) is a multi-state developer and licensed general contractor with employees currently based in five states in the western half of the United States. We specialize in multifamily development and are responsible for all phases of the real estate development process from site selection to lease-up. Our current pipeline consists of 2300+ apartments slated to begin construction over the coming 14 months in various states.
Job Summary:
As the Controller at Russell Square, you will lead and assist in managing the organization’s accounting and financial functions. You’ll prepare, analyze, and present financial reports that enable the organization to make sound business decisions, in addition to ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency. The role requires an in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), strong attention to detail, and industry regulations and trends. Prior industry experience is required, and this individual will report directly to the CFO of the company.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
•Oversees the operations of the Accounting Department, which include accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations, amongst other responsibilities.
•Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
•Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
•Coordinate with other departments to provide financial insights and support.
•Collaborate with the executive team to develop and execute financial strategies.
Role and Responsibilities:
•Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
•Oversee the preparation and presentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
•Ensure timely and accurate company financial reporting in compliance with GAAP/IFRS.
•Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting.
•Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
•Ensure accurate and timely project accounting, including tracking and reporting of project costs.
•Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to senior management.
•Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenue and expenses.
•Assist with managing all aspects of the organization’s accounting processes, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgeting, and forecasting.
•Identify areas of improvement in the accounting process and make appropriate recommendations.
•Assist in evaluating the financial impact of business initiatives and investments and contribute to long-term financial planning and growth strategies.
•Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration required.
•10 years or more of experience as a Controller or in a similar financial leadership role in the construction industry is required.
•Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
•10 years or more of experience using Sage 300, Sage Paperless, Procore, and StructShare.
•Excellent management and supervisory skills.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Excellent organizational and time management skills.
•Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
