Position Summary:
The Safety Manager works with and through Management to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment for all employees; develops and implements accident prevention programs in accordance to OSHA standards, mitigates organizational risk. Manages the safety administration team.
Travel:
Local, Bay Area wide, and LA travel is expected for this position. Ability to drive a motor vehicle, valid California driver's license and clean DMVR are required.
Supervises the Safety Specialist and reports to the Director of Safety.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, and manages safety programs in conjunction with others to reduce frequency of accidents and injuries; assists in minimizing overall workers' compensation costs.
- Plans, implements, communicates, and monitors safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal OSHA rules and regulations.
- Identify injury trends in the workplace
- Audits various safety program elements of effectiveness; schedules and performs safety inspections; identifies issues and develops corrective action plans.
- Investigates all accidents and injuries; recommends and/or manages corrective actions.
- Develops and implements safety training programs designed to instruct employees in general safe work practices plus specific instruction regarding hazards unique to any job assignment; provides or organizes outside resources for training for new and existing employees.
- Responsible for creating SCM slide deck to share with team (gathers data, builds slide deck, etc.)
- Partners with supervisors and managers to develop and track weekly and monthly "tailgate" safety trainings for installation, warehouse, aerial and underground construction crews. Keeps records of meetings and provides the topics to be covered on a weekly basis.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of federal and state OSHA regulations and web sites; maintains up-to-date knowledge of safety codes and regulations; distributes and/or posts new or revised safety standards that affect the company.
- Reviews and responds to OSHA inquiries.
- Identifies potential safety hazards at all facilities; reports hazards and recommendations for eliminating/reducing to management recognizing injury trends in workplace.
- Coordinates with other departments on design and construction of new equipment, facilities, and work methods to ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations.
- Identifies need and collaborates with a third-party to obtain specialized safety training.
- Conducts inspections on tools, equipment, and machinery to ensure they are in safe working conditions; whenever feasible, work directly with manufacturer to obtain training on usage of tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Identifies office and warehouse hazards and takes effective preventive actions and controls.
- Provides workplace violence hazard assessment and develops and implements a violence prevention program.
- Conducts construction site safety evaluations and assessments, including but not limited to machine guarding, hazardous chemicals, and permit required confined space. Traffic control, safety processes, exposures.
- Encourages employees and supervisors to report all unsafe conditions immediately and schedule or coordinate repairs as soon as possible.
- Encourages employees and supervisors to report any injury that occurs on the job, even a slight cut or strain, immediately.
- Maintains records for statistical measurement and conformance to standard practices of the safety industry.
- Maintains and updates company MSDS compliance.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints; evaluate problems and take appropriate action to resolve issues/concerns; advise injured employee of their benefits.
- Coordinates, supports, and develops site trainers in their roles of providing safety training.
- Partners with team to investigate all vehicles accidents; recommends and/or coordinates corrective action.
- Partners with Facilities on Fire Life Safety requirements.
- Partners with HR/Benefits Administrator to plan, organize and direct the activities and long-term strategies for the wellness program components including wellness events, trainings and education, health fair.
- Inspects projects in the field to confirm Sonic and its Subcontractors are working in a safe manner for employees and the public in the areas affected by construction and or Sonic activities.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 to 5 years related experience; bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) preferred
- A Valid California driver's license and clean DMVR
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance standards
- Class A DMV knowledge, preferably FMCSA experience
- Construction and Utility experience a plus

- Bi-lingual (oral and written) in Spanish preferred with the ability to translate business communications from English to Spanish
