NOAA/GFDL is a large national laboratory with the mission of understanding and predicting changes in the global climate, which it fulfills by building and running comprehensive computer models of the Earth system on the largest computers available (the computational scale is measured in petaflops and petabytes). These models are built by large teams, consisting of process scientists specialized in various subcomponents of the climate system; algorithm developers building representations of these processes using numerical methods such as finite-volume; and computational experts working toward efficient execution of these codes on massively parallel high-performance computing (HPC) architectures. We are seeking dynamic, bright young students to join this team, using cutting-edge information technology in service of the most important problems facing humankind! Ideal candidates will have a keen interest in science and computers, get a kick from solving problems and puzzles, and enjoy working in teams filled with diverse talents.
