The Sales Department at Penguin Random House seeks a Sales Assistant to join our Adult Mass Merchandising team. The assistant's role provides administrative support and close collaboration with the sales reps responsible for our Readerlink account, which sell a wide-ranging list of Penguin Random House Adult Core and Client titles, including John Grisham, Lee Child, Danielle Steel, Emily Henry, Taylor Jenkins Reid, David Grann, Ina Garten and more.


This position offers the opportunity to learn and get hands-on experience in the inner workings of a sales department at a global publisher. No previous publishing experience is required.


In Sales, the Sales Assistant acts as a liaison between many different contacts, internally and externally. Daily responsibilities include running various sales and inventory tracking reports, supporting sales reps in line review preparation, entering coop contracts, attending publisher meetings and sales calls, and assisting with follow-up.


Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, enthusiastic about publishing, and enjoys reading broadly and often. We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who loves books of all types and is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide readership, has strong writing and analytical skills, communicates clearly, is comfortable asking for help when needed, and wants to be an active participant on a collaborative team. If you can handle the details of immediately urgent tasks but also remember to step back, consider the big picture, and adjust your strategy when needed, you'll assume greater responsibilities over time.

The Role:

  • Running daily order reports from SAP and the PO Web Tool
  • Running various sales reports from the Readerlink Portal
  • Assisting with sell-in prep for the Readerlink team- entering title info into sell-in grids, tracking down covers and TI Sheets, building Powerpoint presentations
  • Entering coop contracts into the system
  • Handling comp copy requests for buyers
  • Maintaining sales tracking grids
  • Attend publisher meetings as needed to take notes or represent the team


The Essentials:

  • Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to prioritize, and strong and efficient follow-up skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask with the sales reps
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal & written, used on timely follow-up over email and, phone, and chat
  • A team player who treats others with respect and has the ability to build internal & external relationships with departments, authors, agents, and stakeholders
  • Ability to apply organizational methods and strategies to follow department processes, anticipate deadlines, and meet them
  • Ability to take initiative, be resourceful, and problem-solve creatively
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Solutions-focused when met with challenges and can comfortably adapt to changes and anticipate needs when needed once familiar with the role of a Sales Assistant


The salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.

The salary range listed is specific to each particular open position and takes into account various factors including the specifics of the individual role, and candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
